Alot of people are playing and the phone goes, or somebody knocks at the door. So they leave their group in the middle of a mission. It's not best to do this - a good group should be able to do any mission with 7 people and if you manage to come back to the game with zero death penalty towards the end, they might really appreciate your help.
On the longer missions, even if your wife / huspand / parents are moaning for you to come and have dinner - don't leave the group. You could find the mission done for you - or that you can come and help out at the difficult final battle.
It's of course polite to tell the other members you need to afk and why. 99% of the time they'll be fine about it and will appreciate the fact that you aren't quitting the group altogether.
