Some people seem to have far too much trouble with what should be a simple battle.
When preparing to fight the Doppleganger, bear in mind that whatever you put on your skill bar the doppleganger will have to use.
This in mind, DO NOT put all your most powerful uber skills on the bar as you'll get toasted.
You should probably choose skills that are poor when used on their own but have intricate, powerful combinations. The computer often isn't very good at this sort of thing with the doppleganger.
Also if you are a Necromancer, think about putting some high sacrifice skills on your bar. The computer can be a little over-enthusiastic sometimes with these skills and that can make your job alot easier.
When you are fighting him, take note of which skills he uses well and which he uses poorly. Then if you lose, take the skills which he used well out and put more of the type of skills that he used poorly and didn't use.
The doppleganger battle is a very easy, but very tactical battle. It's almost the opposite of every other boss fight in the game where high powered elite skills and simple effective low cost skills are best.
For the doppleganger you often have the best chance with the worst skills equipped.
