Tank attribute point allocation vs. skill choice (and other classes in general)
Getting maximum use of your attribute points is important... many players just dump their points into strength, weapon mastery and tactics and rock on...I would advise a more careful scrutiny...
1st of all, pick the skills you like... maybe even more than 8... Then look at them... don't mix too many attributes.
For example:
I run 4 attack skills, a stance, a smiting skill, and a healing skill, and actually a protection based skill... rebirth
Then look at your shield... it makes a difference.
From this point... start with the healing...Don’t scrimp points here, but don’t use more than you need.
I personally like 7 pips regeneration with healing breeze... a 9 in healing prayers gives you 6 pips, a 10 gives you 7 pips, but so does an 11, so stay with 10
But more importantly...
My shield is tactics based... so I assign the minimum req.
Then I look at my weapon based skills... If you are using a sword, and you like ripost for instance... it's a tactics based skill, it matches your shield, ...perfect... use it... from this point, select your skills to match, choose swordsmanship and tactics based skills, don’t toss in a strength based skill. (Especially if you would want to maximize it, such as a stance or even the skill 'Power Attack')
Now, how many points where...
Look at the green numbers in each skill... how many points do I have to allocate to get it to change? Is it worth going from a 13 swordsmanship to a 14 swordsmanship? (It takes a lot of points to do this)
What is the net effect of doing so? 1 extra HP of damage? Can my points be better used elsewhere?
Balance your swordsmanship and your tactics where you like the results... have points left over? Great! Because I like a couple of smiting skills... Symbol of Wrath is nice... and tho costly, so is Balthazar's Aura... I am able to drop 10 points into smiting... nice damage output.
This leaves me enough to put maybe 6 or so in strength... more than enough to my thinking... in my case, it basically just increases armor penetration, is armor penetration of a 7 more important than an armor penetration of a 6? Not in my mind, not worth the attribute points anyway.
O, forgot to mention, the only think protection prayers helps in my case is to make rebirth slightly faster... pffft, you're dead, not me, if it takes 10 secs vs. 9 secs to rebirth you... o well :P
In summary, carefully placing your points to your advantage is important... look at what an adjustment does... and by the way, kudos to GW for doing away with the penalty of changing your attributes... now use it to your advantage.
