Wards are very good skills for defense in one area. When placed very close to each other they can provide good defense to anyone in the area. However, this is not always the best stategy; having all of your wards in one place leaves your team vulnerable to AoE attacks, such as Searing Flames, Sandstorm and Meteor Shower. It can be more effective to spread your wards out, overlapping in a figure 8 formation. This gives some protection in each of the areas but also gives you room to manoeuvre out of AoE effects. This works in both PvP and PvE.
