For certain missions, you are almost required to pull very carefully lest you end up with an enormous amount of enemies on top of you. I have found that heroes that are placed on 'aggressive' are just that, they will charge far out of the aggro circle to attack something, and you will need to really run far away to get him to come back. This can be problematic, especially because monsters have a tendency to get stuck on you after the recent update, meaning that they will aggro as soon as you see them on the minimap.
So for that careful pulling situation, put a flag up a little ways back from where you are, and set your heroes on defensive. This way, they won't charge after you away from the flag to attack something, they will only defend that area, allowing you to run forward a bit and pull a group back to them safely.
