Description

Pets often have more health than us humans. Their health ranges from 100 to 540. A level 20 pet will have between 420 (Dire) and 540 (Hearty) health.

There is no 'best' pet: all have the ability to reach the same stats. depending on how they are trained. However, it would seem that the Bear attacks at a slower speed due to it's 'Brutual Mauling' skill, which doesn't increase it's damage, putting the bear at a slight disadvantage.

The main difference in pet performance is due to evolution (levels 11 and 15) and it's master's skill in Beast Mastery.

If you want to know what evolution your pet has.. evolved into.. ^^ just type /petname without adding a pet name: the name you gave it will disappear, and you will see whether your pet is Aggressive, Hearty, etc.. You can put it back again by simply doing the same and adding a name for your little (or not so little, as the case may be) companion.

Pets do not suffer from Death Penalty.

You can call your pet off a target by targetting yourself (click on your name in the party window together with the ctrl. key; or press ctrl. and space with yourself selected). People will think you're nuts :D, but the more points in BM you have the more likely this is to work: pet intelligence/obedience (AI) seems to increase with higher BM..

Try it :)

I heard that pressing 'F' (i.e: simply selecting yourself) should call your pet to you, but I have not found this to be the case. However, calling in the manner I have said, does work, though it takes some practice and is not always guaranteed to work.

Contrary to the skill description, I feel sure that 'Call of Protection' does NOT work on other pets, only your own.

If you wish to know more about pets, here are some (heavy reading) links:

Animal Companion (Guild Wars Wiki)

Pet Guide (Guild Wars Realm)

Ultimate Pet Guide (Guild Wars Guru)

A guide to evolving your pet to Dire (GW Online)

I hope you gleaned something useful from this.
