A BM in CA (Competition Arena) or TA (Team Arena) is a good way to surprise the enemy and pick up some quick faction if used properly. Also it is very good against casters and monks since most people in the CA and TA ignore the pets they can sneak by and target the monks without too much of a problem and if you die they continue to deal a decent amount of dmg even without you there so it's like having an extra player. Plus pets have an almost constant sprint ability
You should probably make a pvp character for this build since a PvE will take some time and money and who wants to spend money when faction is free right? Also the build requires perfect timing on the skills since the pet wont use them unless he is right next to the enemy. Use them before and they miss.
So to make the character do the usual steps but here is the fun part, you want to make a longbow (LONGBOW not composite, LONG. you won't be doing much dmg but you can to get your pet to attack while maintaining a distance) with poisoner's bow string to increase the effects of poison and probably +30hp or a +armor mod since you are vulnerable whereas your pet is not. Put all your attributes in Beast Mastery and Smiting and the rest can go into expertise. Also place minor runes of Beast Mastery and Expertise and wear the headgear that gives +1 to Beast Mastery. Basically you want Beast Mastery at 14-15, Smiting at 12, and the rest in expertise.
Skills:
-Judge's Insight
-Bal's Aura
-Feral Lunge (important)
-Poison Arrow (Elite) (important)
-Charm Animal (obviously)
-Comfort Animal (not necessary since pets are generally ignored but could be brought)
-Strength of Honor (very good enchantment. Increases pet dmg considerably and with Judge's Insight your pet could be hitting for 60-80 with normal attacks)
-Remove hex (not important but your pet is very vulnerable to Spiteful Spirit and could cause the loss for the team if it attacks with Spiteful on)
-If you don't want to use the optional skills then bring Call of Protection and a few low cost pet attacks.
An alternate but similar build is to go all smiting skills and just poison arrow as the elite. Then you can do some damage along-side your pet. Just be careful because smite skills have a shorter range and you could be pulled in a little closer to the action than you might want.
Now here's the plan: First put Strength of honor on the pet then call a target and attack it with your bow. Let the pet run up to it then nail the target with poison arrow and then have your pet use feral lunge which will usually cause bleeding. You now have them at a decent degen rate with 2 conditions. Then use Judge's Insight for that extra kick followed by Balthazar's Aura which will make the pet a small smiting machine for that extra kick then let your pet hack away at them with the rest of it's skills. If you have monks have them keep it alive but if you don't comfort animal. GvG or HoH (since i don't do HoH :P) but it's mostly for Team Arena and the rand gen Comp Arena. Just use it and watch the faction come pouring in..unless your team is really bad.. then you'll get at least 25 faction a run..
Also this build offers really good practice with timing since timing is a really important factor in this build. Use the skill to early and it misses, use the skill to late and you wasted a skill since it won't have the same effect. Also if your pet has Bal's Aura on and Judge's Insight feel free to let it wander between enemies since that will take the monk's focus away from himself and the rest of the teammates will kill him or it will scatter the team because the monk is too busy trying to keep himself alive or running around aimlessly and hoping that the team will turn and leave him alone.
