PVP: Beast Mastery build for CA and TA

A BM in CA (Competition Arena) or TA (Team Arena) is a good way to surprise the enemy and pick up some quick faction if used properly. Also it is very good against casters and monks since most people in the CA and TA ignore the pets they can sneak by and target the monks without too much of a problem and if you die they continue to deal a decent amount of dmg even without you there so it's like having an extra player. Plus pets have an almost constant sprint ability

You should probably make a pvp character for this build since a PvE will take some time and money and who wants to spend money when faction is free right? Also the build requires perfect timing on the skills since the pet wont use them unless he is right next to the enemy. Use them before and they miss.

So to make the character do the usual steps but here is the fun part, you want to make a longbow (LONGBOW not composite, LONG. you won't be doing much dmg but you can to get your pet to attack while maintaining a distance) with poisoner's bow string to increase the effects of poison and probably +30hp or a +armor mod since you are vulnerable whereas your pet is not. Put all your attributes in Beast Mastery and Smiting and the rest can go into expertise. Also place minor runes of Beast Mastery and Expertise and wear the headgear that gives +1 to Beast Mastery. Basically you want Beast Mastery at 14-15, Smiting at 12, and the rest in expertise.

Skills:
-Judge's Insight
-Bal's Aura
-Feral Lunge (important)
-Poison Arrow (Elite) (important)
-Charm Animal (obviously)
-Comfort Animal (not necessary since pets are generally ignored but could be brought)
-Strength of Honor (very good enchantment. Increases pet dmg considerably and with Judge's Insight your pet could be hitting for 60-80 with normal attacks)
-Remove hex (not important but your pet is very vulnerable to Spiteful Spirit and could cause the loss for the team if it attacks with Spiteful on)

-If you don't want to use the optional skills then bring Call of Protection and a few low cost pet attacks.

An alternate but similar build is to go all smiting skills and just poison arrow as the elite. Then you can do some damage along-side your pet. Just be careful because smite skills have a shorter range and you could be pulled in a little closer to the action than you might want.

Now here's the plan: First put Strength of honor on the pet then call a target and attack it with your bow. Let the pet run up to it then nail the target with poison arrow and then have your pet use feral lunge which will usually cause bleeding. You now have them at a decent degen rate with 2 conditions. Then use Judge's Insight for that extra kick followed by Balthazar's Aura which will make the pet a small smiting machine for that extra kick then let your pet hack away at them with the rest of it's skills. If you have monks have them keep it alive but if you don't comfort animal. GvG or HoH (since i don't do HoH :P) but it's mostly for Team Arena and the rand gen Comp Arena. Just use it and watch the faction come pouring in..unless your team is really bad.. then you'll get at least 25 faction a run..

Also this build offers really good practice with timing since timing is a really important factor in this build. Use the skill to early and it misses, use the skill to late and you wasted a skill since it won't have the same effect. Also if your pet has Bal's Aura on and Judge's Insight feel free to let it wander between enemies since that will take the monk's focus away from himself and the rest of the teammates will kill him or it will scatter the team because the monk is too busy trying to keep himself alive or running around aimlessly and hoping that the team will turn and leave him alone.

Use a PvE character  lani on 02/02/06 09:12

And bring a Moa-Bird, just to add insult to injury ;-)

  silverstein on 02/02/06 11:43

How are you with energy in this build? I used to make some smiting BM builds, but i would bring a staff for the extra energy because i found it a problem. I also brought more pet attacks though, so i was using energy more often. Best part was when the enemy team was balled up, sent the pet in, they were almost all dead within seconds.

NO!!!!!  blackphoenix on 02/02/06 12:12

Dang it... now I have to go and make another beast master ranger... /sigh

  Nihil Zarathustra on 02/02/06 12:40

i'm fine as far as energy goes since i dont spam attacks like crazy but rather take into account how quickly the monk can heal and how much health the other player has. If you wait 1 second between each attack, assuming the monk isn't spamming heals, you'll still take him down but you wont lose any energy for the low cost spells and only 5-6 for the higher cost ones. Also for the 20 sec judge's insight is on you dont really need to use any attacks other than poison arrow.

ISn't ferocious strike better than PA for a bm build elite?

  Rogue on 02/02/06 12:55

with the quest "last day dawns" you can turn the king into a smitebomb and just use him to wipe out the map - this sounds like it would be pretty easy to do that with this build too.

It is if you are using a direct dmg BM build but this one has a combination of direct damage and degen. If you use the BM skill that causes bleeding along with the one that causes poison that's a degen of 7 or 8 right there. Plus with skills like str of honor and judge's insight you won't really need too many pure dmg BM skills.

  FireMarshal on 02/02/06 19:18

I'd prefer taking Apply Poison and Ferocious Strike, instead of Poison Arrow and Comfort Animal/Remove Hex. Ferocious Strike is a nice dose of Energy Management.

  Robert Locksley on 02/02/06 21:27

WOW, i am amazed you made this. Everyone was telling me pets are ONLY fodder for IWAY groups and it's partially true but this is interesting. Thx

  Blaze furo on 02/04/06 05:35

haha, I love bringing my wolf into the pvp arenas. Nobody expects a pet to do any damage, so it's really funny. One time, after I died, my wolf killed a necromancer all by himself, since nobody attacked the wolf, and I don't think the guy knew where all the damage was coming from. Seriously, pets are awesome because nobody thinks they're significant (because usually they're not).

  Minus_the_Great on 02/04/06 10:19

my spider owns =D it is a better tank than a warrior and i use it for those thing even as tank in UW...call of prot and symbiotic bondFTW^^

  CrazyTreeBoy on 02/05/06 07:08

One thing I'd like to add, is Symbiotic Bond will both heal your pet and reduce damage taken by it (redirecting half to you, +1 regen)

Get balthazars spirit on yourself, like a bonder would, and now everytime you're hit OR your bet is hit, you'll be gaining energy to smite with.

  Araid on 02/10/06 17:54

I'm gonna try it, but I find some strange things...
Poison arrow and no points in survival??? just poison for 5 seconds?
I also find u dont have enough energy...

  fireball4me on 04/12/06 16:11

For the energy management, use a staff with +15 energy, or a wand with +energy while enchanted and a max energy foci.

  fireball4me on 04/12/06 16:12

^^sry, but I forgot to say, take poison arrow out, and add Ferocious Srtike

  vvolfenstein on 06/10/06 10:54

i agree with fireball4me remove poison arrow, put in ferocious strike and change str of honor for poisonous bite, i believe it poisons and adds dmg so then you can bring a staff and be able to spam your skills

  ultimatebm on 07/28/08 23:53

dude it would be eaiser to replace PA with poision bite, and for elite use heal as one for a good self and pet healer............and i find that BM skills are more useful in AB

  ultimatebm on 07/28/08 23:59

oh and 1 more thing....... i sugest you use a bear because they have a higher damage output than any other pet but the lion
