Thirsty River: Makin it easy

Thirsty River. A mission that requires Discipline and Teamwork. The mission in itself is basically easy, but many people do not know how to do it the easy way. There is no room for soloists and/or aggroing idiots on this mission.

Basically there is no 'specific' team build that you need to complete this. 1-2 monks, a tank or two, and any other classes would work.

First off, before you enter, know how it works. Each team you go against will resurrect every two minutes unless you kill the priest. This is one of the harder parts for people new to this. You don’t want to go for the priest right away, since there are others that can easily kill you while you attack the priest. But you also want to work towards the priest, fast enough to reach him before the two minutes are up.

The first group should be easy, just kill all the enemies outside of the wooden structure, then go in and attack the priest first. After you have killed the priest, then kill the boss. In this mission, you NEVER attack the boss first, the boss is last.

The second group is a little trickier. There are two groups near each other; the best strategy is to go for the left-handed group first since there’s a lesser chance of unnecessary aggroing the other group. Stay to the left wall as much as possible and work your way (killing the enemies) towards the priest. Kill him, then the boss. After the first group is killed, then you need to wait until the next (odd number):45. Or 15 seconds before the next even numbered time. For example, if when you kill the boss the time is 3:23, then you need to wait until 3:45 to attack. Then repeat, leave a trail of dead towards the building, kill the priest, then the boss.

The third area is made up of three enemy groups. Depending on what people want to cap, go left (monk) or right (ranger), and the middle is a warrior. Stick to wall of whatever side you decide to attack first and kill the enemies on the outside, kill priest, then boss. Once the first group is killed, wait again until 15 seconds before the next even numbered time. Outside, priest, boss, wait.

With this strategy, I have never missed the bonus.

If you have a teammate who can kill enemies in less than 15 seconds, you should probably wait until _:55 or so.

Remember, waiting for the right time is CRUCIAL, if you attack the enemy too early or too late, then all the enemies you killed will come back around the priest. And if they are all in one area, then it’s harder to kill the priest. And after the update, nuking the group is somewhat harder.

Also, bring at least one Cap Sig, since there is a boss with an elite for every class. Same for Elona Reach and Dunes of Despair, but Thirsty River is easier to cap, since you need to kill every boss anyway.

Thank you for writing this guide. Now mabey i can get into a group that can do this mission well :)

I always wait till x:50 but it doesn't really matter much indeed, as long as you time it so the first enemy you kill dies after resurrection.

What I do think matters and you did not include (unless I missed it, read it quickly) is that after 1:10-1:15 or so you should ignore the enemies outside that you didn't manage to kill yet and go straight for the priest.
Also the left base in the third challenge is slightly different, you might want to go for the priest a bit earlier than what you were used to before since the boss is a monk and heals the priest.

I usually bring a ranger with choking gas/savage shot against the 2 monk group. Timing damage spikes with meteor shower is a great plus.

Usually, for the last bit, where you're fighting the three different groups - it's easier to go right and take out the ranger and the warrior groups first. This ALSO has the added benefit of giving you running room should your group have a problem with the final monk group. That is a luxury you won't have by going left.

Also, since you have to kill the entire group, it's actually a fairly simple matter of leaving one of the forgotten in Josso's (monk) group alive until after you've killed Josso, getting the cap, and killing the last forgotten.

@Julia: Yeah, I did kinda say it, but it wasn't as clear as it should have been, thanks for pointing that out.

@Seeker: I do agree, if you have a good-bad team, you should go right first. But I have been in great teams that knew what that little circle around your dot means. : P

I don't think it is necessary to switch to the priest at 1:10-1:15. I do this mission constantly with just henchmen and a customer. It takes about 5 seconds to kill the priest.

The biggest problem I see with pickup teams in this mission is that they don't have enough damage output. I take Lina, Alesia, Orion, and Thorn. Between my W/R, Thorn, and the Ghostly Hero, we can usually make quick work of anything that gets in our way. Priests die in about 5 seconds, usually kill them at about the 1:00 - 1:40 mark, depending on what we're up against (and how much blind is thrown on us).

The key to this really is heavy damage output - you're constantly racing against the clock. Josso the Monk's team is a great example of that. We kill his minions by the 1:00 mark, then do a little damage to the enchanted bow (so Josso heals him), then hit the priest - he's dead before Josso can heal him more than once (usually takes about five seconds).

If you are ever having a problem with this mission, and need someone to take you through, I am usually available on weekend nights

what if the monk boss keeps healing the priest? Would you need to kill the monk boss first or what? because the monk boss has word of healing and pretty advance healing techniques. i did the mission and our whole party was beating on him bt the preist didnt die. we even interupted his atacks a couple of times, and the priest still lived.

this mission is easy up to monk boss if you know how.
i did this mission first try with a lvl 13 me/r with a group of henchies cos all the noobs that wont accept a low level into the groups forced me to :P i suppose i shouldnt of gone back there to brag after i did do it tho lol.
what i did against monk boss was attack preist so all henchies do to then just target monk boss but not attack so henchies still attack preist and just interupt whenever he trys to heal. archane conundrom helps a bit to to make his cast time longer
i also got to monk boss with a lvl 14 ranger and henchies but they didnt attack preist when i told them to so we died. did try again
