Trappers can be a very strong pvp team if used correctly and can hold their own against the current "fad" teams such as iways.
When picking professions for your trapper pvp character you should use the IVEX Trapper build which is already made and provides you with some basic skills. If you already have the skills for trapping then you should stick to a R/Mo build. If you are using a R/Mo build switch Healing Springs for Heal Party or possibly Heal Area
Skills
Distracting Shot
If Distracting Shot hits, it interrupts target foe's action but deals only 1-13 damage. If the interrupted action was a skill, that skill is disabled for an additional 20 seconds.
Poison Arrow Elite Skill
If Poison Arrow hits, your target becomes Poisoned for 5-20 seconds.
Throw Dirt
Target-touched foe and foes adjacent to your target become blinded for 3-15 seconds.
Healing Spring
For 10 seconds, all allies in the area are healed for 15-51 health every 2 seconds. While activating this skill, you are easily interrupted.
Serpent's Quickness
For 15-27 seconds, recharge times for your attack skills are reduced by 33%. Serpent's Quickness ends if your health drops below 50%.
Flame Trap
When Flame Trap is triggered, for 3 seconds all foes in the area are struck for 15-27 fire damage and set on fire for 1-3 seconds. Flame Trap automatically triggers after 90 seconds. While activating this skill, you are easily interrupted.
Barbed Trap
When Barbed Trap is triggered, all foes in the area take 20-56 piercing damage, become crippled, and begin bleeding for 3-21 seconds. Barbed Trap ends after 90 seconds. While activating this skill, you are easily interrupted.
Dust Trap
When Dust Trap is triggered, all foes in the area are Blinded for 3-9 seconds and take 10-56 earth damage. While activating this skill you are easily interrupted. Dust Trap ends after 90 seconds.
Skills You May Also Consider Using
Frozen Soil
Create a level 1-8 Spirit. For creatures within its range, dead creatures cannot be resurrected. This Spirit dies after 30-78 seconds.
Spike Trap Elite Skill
When Spike Trap is triggered, all foes in the area take 10-68 piercing damage, become Crippled for 3-15 seconds, and are knocked down. Spike Trap ends after 90 seconds. While activating this skill, you are easily interrupted.
Using The Skills
- Before placing traps in the start of a HoH match you should use Serpent's Quickness so you can quickly recharge your traps so you can lay another round or so you can trap on top of the enemy.
- When setting up a wall of traps you should use barbed, then closer to you put flame, then where you are going to be standing put dust. This way the attacking enemies (warrios usually) will hit the barbed trap, become crippled, then stand in the flame trap for a longer time because they are crippled and when/ if they finally reach you the dust traps will give you time to set another trap or two.
- If you are being attacked by a healthy warrior the best strategy is to use Throw Dirt to blind him, set a barbed trap then back away and set more traps. If the enemy persists just keep him crippled or blinded and you should do fine. If Throw Dirt is recharging DO NOT use dust trap. Enemies will quickly interupt you.
Using A Trapper Team
- When forming a team, take 6 trapper, all with Healing Springs or some other form of party healing, all should have the 3 main traps (dust, flame, and barbed) and possibly Spike. Take 2 monks also, one healing one prot. or both healing. Make sure they have Heal Party, Heal Area, or Mend Ailment or Mend Condition.
- In HoH the best method when using a trapper team is the "ball" method. Which involves all the trappers standing together in a ball so when one trapper uses Healing Springs all the trappers are healed.
- In the first round of HoH wait till the starting timer is at 10 seconds left then place traps at the gate. Use SQ (Serpent's Quickness) and place all your traps. Then when the gate is opened and you have placed your traps move to the stairs and continue to place traps.
- The only major flaw with the above strategy is when the enemy team is an iway build. In which case the iways will send their pets out to trigger the traps. If the opposing build is an iway dont place too many traps until most of the pets are dead. Otherwise the traps will go to waste.
- When around half of the opposing team is dead use Frozen Soil (as long as most of your team is alive). Frozen Soil will keep both teams from ressurecting any party members as long as the spirit is still alive.
- Never leave the main group when trapping. Always stay together until around 3 enemies are left. Then you can split up and track them down. (if Frozen Soil is not on then they will try to res falled teamates so be prepared)
- After the first round you when you move on to the round with the priest (2nd round usually) you may want to rush the opposing team (unless its an iway). Rushing will scare and confuse the other team because it is not a usual trapper tactic. (rushing worths quite well against smite builds)
- After the second round the main way to win the next rounds it to control the center of the field and to stay in a tight group.
