No, I don’t mean anything inappropriate! By skills with a partner I mean making better use of your skills through another player. If you and a friend work together a lot, why not adjust your skills to complement his/hers, and vice versa. While you’re at it, adjust your weapons if possible. Here is what I mean:
Your weapon probably has mods on it, or a bonus of some sort. For example, a weapon that gives you a mighty good bonus while you are enchanted. If your buddy can keep you enchanted at all times, you’ll be sending out whopping damage that you couldn’t otherwise. Another one that people might not see right away is the additional damage for having less than 50% health. If you are a mesmer illusionist (primary or secondary), use illusion of weakness to lower your health without much risk of dying. When worst comes to worst, your friend may be able to heal you (assuming that he’s a monk).
As for skills, there are a variety of ways to match yours with your friend’s. Suppose your friend is a monk. You know that monks are weak and have low energy, so maybe you can find a way to keep his/her energy up (well of power, for example) to make him more effective for the group. You could also focus other skills around protecting him, because once the monks are dead only res sigs can save the party in a crisis. You might choose to blind his enemies, slow his enemies so he can run, hack and slash multiple enemies at once (barrage or cyclone axe, for example), or whatever.
All of this is just if your friend is a monk. There are an equally large number of possibilities for working with all the other classes, but I’ll leave that up to you to decide how to make your skills complement those of you friend. Essentially you are able to work with 16 skills instead of 8, and hasn’t everybody always wanted to have more skills?
