Jaga Moraine Spectral Vaettir Farming in HM!
Welcome to my guide! This is my first, so please forgive any mistakes. This guide will teach you how to farm Spectral Vaettirs in Hard Mode for Glacial Stones (and indirectly, Glacial Gauntlets). This build uses popular Earth Magic skills to negate the damage of the Mesmer’s base attacks and the combination of Glyph of Swiftness and Obsidian Flesh to maintain immunity to the Vaettir’s powerful degeneration spells.
Preparation
This build requires little to no set up; it is possible using your regular PvE armor and any weapon with an Enchanting Mod. However, there are some items that will work better than others.
Attributes and Skills:
1: Arcane Echo
Enchantment Spell. If you cast a spell in the next 20 seconds, Arcane Echo is replaced with that spell for 20 seconds. Arcane Echo ends prematurely if you use a non-spell skill.
2: Teinai’s Crystals
Spell. Foes adjacent to you are struck for 106 damage, but are cured of any negative conditions.
3: Crystal Wave
Spell. Foes adjacent to you are struck for 106 damage, but are cured of any negative conditions.
4: Glyph of Swiftness
Glyph. For 15 seconds, your next 2 spells recharge 25% faster, and projectiles from those attacks move 200% faster.
5: Obsidian Flesh [elite]
Enchantment Spell. For 21 seconds, you gain +20 armor and cannot be the target of enemy spells, but move 50% slower.
6: Stoneflesh Aura
Enchantment Spell. For 16 seconds, damage you receive is reduced by 33 and you are immune to critical attacks.
7: Mantra of Earth
Stance. For 74 seconds, whenever you take earth damage, the damage is reduced by 44% and you gain 2 energy.
8: Storm Djinn Haste
Enchantment Spell. For 14 seconds, you move 33% faster. Each second that you are moving, you lose 1 energy.
Equipment
The only really required piece of equipment necessary to farm Vaettirs is A stone headpiece with a Superior Earth Magic Rune. The rest is up to personal preference (Needless to say, max armor is required). I use my regular PvE armor, simply because I couldn’t be bothered to craft new armor. If the shield you are using doesn’t have a -2 Damage(While Enchanted) Inscri.ption or a -2 Damage (While in a Stance) Inscri.ption, then using Geomancer insignias is advisable.
An Enchantments last 20% Longer suffix mod is required on whatever weapon you choose to use. I recommend a One Handed weapon (Wand, Sword, Axe, or Spear) with an 'I have the power!' inscri.ption and an Enchanting Mod. Your offhand should either have a 'Run for your Life!' or 'Sheltered by Faith' Mod, each of which will grant you constant damage reduction of 2.

Usage
I thought of trying this build one day when, after checking PvX Builds for a build I could use to acquire the 100 Glacial Stones I wanted for Glacial Gloves. The build I got there was starting to get on my nerves; due to the Vaettir’s high elemental armor(160AL), sliver armor was only hitting 7 at a time. It was unbearably slow. I considered all of the Armor Ignoring Area of Effect spells that I knew of, and decided to try the combination of identical skills Teinai’s Crystals and Crystal Wave. I must admit, I was immensely surprised when these two one-shot, 20 seconds recharge skills managed to kill all 60 Vaettirs nearly 3 times as quickly as the famed farming skill Sliver Armor.
Running to Jaga Moraine
The Run is by far the easiest part of this Farm. If done correctly, you don’t aggro a foe even once. Starting from Longeye Ledge in Hard Mode, run west, avoiding agro, and keeping up Storm Djinn’s Haste to cut down on time. This is the route that you will follow:
*Note:* Occasionally a wurm will spawn; after the knockdown, continue running with Storm Djinn’s Haste. There is a theory that the wurms only spawn and use Wurm Bile when you are wielding a melee weapon; I have no opinion and this: If you choose to believe it, run with a caster weapon, if not, do whatever you want.
Gathering the Aggro
The hardest part of the execution of this build, in my opinion, is the gathering of the mobs. There are 9 groups of 4 Spectral Vaettirs on the right side, and 6 groups of 4 on the left. First, make sure to take the Norn Blessing from the nearby NPC manning a Ressurection Shrine. Approach the closest mob of Vaettirs on your right, and cast your skills in order, starting at #4 and moving down through #8. Run towards the Vaettirs, gathering as many as possible. When Stoneflesh Aura recharges, you will have around 2-3 seconds to begin casting it. Keep in motion as much as possible, and try to keep most of the vaettirs on one side of you, so they don’t trap you. Cast Glyph of Swiftness immediately after Stoneflesh Aura (Click 4 on your keyboard while Stoneflesh Aura is casting). Keep in motion as much as possible, gathering Vaettirs, until Obsidian Flesh recharges. Cast Obsidian Flesh, and if necessary, gather the rest of the 36 Vaettirs. This process will be repeated on the left side after you finish killing this mob gathered around you.
Killing the Vaettirs
Now you are a lvl 20 Elementalist surrounded by as many as 36 lvl 26 Mesmers, but there is no need to panic. If you prepared correctly, and are remembering to maintain your enchantments and stances, you have 100% health and energy. Make sure that whenever you cast Obsidian Flesh, you have Glyph of Swiftness on yourself. Maintain Obsidian Flesh, Stoneflesh Aura, and Mantra of Earth at all times; Obsidian Flesh prevents the Vaettirs from casting their nasty degeneration hexes on you; Stoneflesh Aura prevents damage from their base attacks; Mantra of Earth provides you with a constant stream of near-infinite energy. To damage the Vaettirs, cast in the order: Arcane Echo, Teinai’s Crystals, Echoed Teinai’s Crystals, Crystal Wave. When you have killed all of the Vaettirs, zone into Bjora Marches, then zone back into Jaga Moraine. Rinse and repeat.
Counters
The only real way that this build can be messed up is by human error. If you die by forgetting to recast Stoneflesh Aura or Obsidian Flesh, simply run back and try again. Your DP will be cleared in moments. In most cases, forgetting Stoneflesh Aura for a second is more lethal; you will be dead almost immediately. If Obsidian Flesh goes down for a second, the Vaettirs will hex you with Images of Remorse and Conjure Phantasm. You can easily survive this, but I have found that if I start degenerating health (or, completely off topic, forget to cast Mantra of Earth and have my energy drop), the Vaettirs will scatter. This is probably some weird AI programming problem, but it slows down our run sometimes. If Obsidian Flesh is down for an extended period of time, you will be killed by Accumulated Pain.
This is an image of the weird effect that degeneration has on your agro holding abilities:
Conclusion
Thanks to all of my guildies who put up with my ranting about drop rates in A-Chat, and to A-net for making such an easy and profitable farm (and I guess GW isn’t that bad of an accomplishment either) Thanks to you for reading through my first guide.
