How it started:
It all started when I wanted to increase my 60% explorer title, but I couldn't see very well what I was able to explore. I began searching the internet and found a program called Texmod. This program allows you to modify your textures in GW! It is completely harmless, and will not affect anyone else except yourself.
Is this cheating? NO! Because you only modify your own textures and it has nothing to do with other players.

What do we need:
Texmod:
Download Texmod

World map mods:
Tyria and EotN
Cantha
Elona

And then:
Dowload it all and install it (I advise to put a shortcut from Texmod on your desktop and a folder in your GW folder where you put all the mods in). Your anti-virus might warn you against running the program, but it will be perfectly safe. Texmod is, after all, just texmod, it's been used for almost a year now.
Start up Texmod and you will see something like this:

________________________________________________________________________________________

Click the folder icon at \"Target Application\", go to your GW folder in program files and select your GW.exe file.
You can now press the \"Run\" button if you want and GW will start normally, without any modifications.
Now click the small folder icon in the middle of your windows and click \"Browse...\". Go to the folder where you downloaded all mods - I advice to load them all in the first time, so you can load them with 1 click later. After you loaded everything, it should look like this:

________________________________________________________________________________________

Congratulations! You can now press the \"Run\" button and GW will start up al modded. If you load a PvE character and press M (also works with U!) you will see something like this (Every campaign has it's own beautiful color ^^):

________________________________________________________________________________________

A final word:
I hope this guide was helpful and that you can make your GW even more personal! Maybe even (finally) get a 100%!!

If you want more mods, you can download them here: GWWiki mods

Watch out! These things are player made and I can not guarantee they are all virus free!

If you have any questions/criticism, please post it here.

WHAT?! I created this same guide [with more detail] ages ago and it got turned down!

QUOTE
At this point I can't approve your guide. It is a touchy subject for us here at the fansites as it involved modifying property of ANet and NCSoft. The admins and I feel it's best at this point not to put anything like this up on the site at this time until we've heard more from ANet. We hope you understand.

Anyways, glad the information is out there now for the masses. Cred Rider for bringing it to GameAMP for us.

  Hydras First on 11/21/07 15:01

Dont be a smartass retro. Or a hypocrite, considering that you just talking about whining in your one of the Rant and Rave posts. And as if Credit mattered. According to your quote, your guide involved property of ANet, and Blazing guide just affect your own game, not the whole Guild Wars system. I cant say for sure that yours affected the entire game of guildwars, but if it did thats probably the reason it was turned down.

Ok before hopefully anyone says anything, I didnt mean offense to anyone by that last comment, my anger just got ahead of my brain and this thing popped up before my brain processed it. IF any offense is taken feel free to bash me, only in PM though so you dont get banned or whatnot

Could you please tell me what step you don't understand? I can't edit the guide anymore so I'll have to be posting it here =

Correct, on another topic (can't find it atm) someone from Anet has said this is completely legal since it only affects your own GW.

As final I would like to report a little bug. Sometimes when I walk through a portal while the mission map (U) is open, you will see the world map as shadow/on your screen with 50% transparancy.

  Ulv on 11/21/07 15:38

You shouldn't load all 3 maps at the same time because they'll overlap.
Try loading up Nightfall and go to a Factions area and check your map. You'll notice what I mean.
What TexMod does is basicly loading it onto the maps.
When you load all 3 they all load on the map, and because it's transparant, you'll see all 3, which makes it confusing.
But cheers on the guide.

PS: This method of changing textures is "old", if you guys remember the so-called Terrorshield that was supposed to drop in UW, it's been made with this method. He just modded the skin of Tower Shield.

  retro77 on 11/21/07 15:59

Sorry for the rant/whine...its just frustrating when you go through and do a guide, it gets shot down, then you see another one. I'm glad to see it finally in a guide since we get tons of posts asking about cartography and/or how to use the mods.

BTW, Hydra, I wouldn't bash ya!

The modifying of property of Anet is refering to the use of the Texmod application. The credit I am refering to is this post by Rider:
http://guildwars.gameamp.com/forum/showTopic/62693.php
Which I was active in and made a small guide in one of the posts.

  mriswith on 11/22/07 02:17

Blazings: the area you say you cant get to is in the northern wall mission. Before you have to run over the 1st bridge you will find a path. It will bring you to the charr camp area.

  mason717 on 11/22/07 02:19

Wow, thanks! :D

  phantom hunter on 11/22/07 03:57

Nice! now i can finally get my cartographer titles ^^

  Blazings on 11/22/07 04:35

Haha yeah I went from 64% to 74% in 2 days =D There are some really weird spots in there though.. wouldn't know how to get there.

Weird, I have no problems with that at all =$ But than you just load the map you want to explore that day ^^.

1 more thing to add, my virusscanner picked this up as a virus when you normaly scan the computer, so beware you don't delete it. Really weird because when you right click and press "scan" it doesn't find anything.

grml, it wont work.... enny tips?

  Hertrix on 11/22/07 23:27

hehe thanks to this texmod i finally got grandmaster cartography in elona and cantha, and now i'm .7% away in tyria. i was originally at about 98.2% tyria, 92.3% elona, 92.6% cantha until i found this. i think i saw it in a forum topic, but this is a great way to tell other people about it too!

QUOTE

what is your problem with it? where are you getting problems? i had a problem when i accidentally tried to put TexMod into the Guild Wars folder. if that's it do NOT put the program into the same folder as guild wars. it will NOT run. i normally just keep it on the desktop until i'm done exploring.

  Soqed Hozi on 11/23/07 03:28

you cant rn 3 mods at once anyway

this is a very good tool, but its not very accurate (alot of balck areas show, that is to say, areas that I have explored that the mapper did not).

Texmod got me my pkm with my cartographer titles, i was close to them maxxed but couldnt find any motivation to do them till this.

It's pretty accurate if it got you the title, and when you say "Alot of Black" thats normal because not everyones map is the same as yours.

God is my Judge on 11/23/07 11:21

thanks for this man! i've been going ballistic trying to find the last 5% of tyria on my ranger and now cause of this i have legendary cart on him :D

Is that pop-up from your anti-virus/firewall? It asked me if that program was allowed to access the internet and I clicked yes. If you couldn't click yes: open your anti-virus program (I assume you have a firewall with that too). Go to the firewall section and there should be an option where you can add programs to a "safe list".
Hope that solves the problem!

  bandit_jin on 11/24/07 08:22

yup.i jus disabled my firewall. works fine now . thx for posts. cartogerpher here i come

  Blazings on 11/24/07 09:24

I wouldn't leave that off the whole time you play GW though =P You could get some nasty stuff on your computer than..

  SycX on 11/24/07 11:40

Hmmh, another guide about this?

I got my titles with this about half a year ago or so, after reading retro's guide back then, when this map thingy was "new"^^

A-Net hadn't declared this stuff as "legal" back then when Retro posted, nobody was sure if using texmod was allowed or not. Now, we know that it is allowed, and so this guide slipped through.

  Madness Redeemer on 11/25/07 01:42

Ya, ya, it isn't cheating. But still this takes power out of the title. The 100% title is for people who really tried and searched the maps to find the small pieces they missed. I think programs like these are taking the fun out of guild wars.

But other than that, good guide, easy to follow and understand.

Actually people started using this mod long after a-net declared this was ok. It's on the talk page of one of the a-nets employee, where she states it would be ok to modify your ingame textures with texmod.

Major Hinata Fan on 11/28/07 16:12

DAMMIT i have 99.9%(using texmod) of elona and I CANNOT GET THE LAST FIRGGIN SPOT I NEED!!!

Major Hinata Fan on 11/29/07 16:58

HAZZAH FINALLY!!!!!! Now time to get the last 1.3% of cantha.....stupid vizunah square

O and just a tid bit, there are certain spots that show u cannot explore using texmod that u can actually get.

  mathwizz on 12/15/07 08:59

i cant get it to work!!!

when i load the gw with the mod it just runs normally without the mod

i dont have texmod in the same folder as gw, i already checked

Hmm that's weird. I do have texmod in the same for as GW btw.. Are you sure you also loaded the mods at the "select packages" section?

  IronWarrior on 12/18/07 09:26

Has anyone else got an alert with the program from the link above?

...Riiight...First of all, when you say "Go to the folder where you downloaded all the mods", the only mod i've downloaded is Texmod, so do I load that up again (somehow I don't think so) and also when I go to my GW.EXE folder (In Program Files), the only icons are Gw.dat (DAT file), Gw (Guild Wars Game CLient) and Gw.tmp (TMP file). I am really confused as to how Texmod works. I got stuck when I chose the Target Application as GW.EXE... Help would be useful...Thanks...
