PvE Assassin
An PvE build for assassin I have been using awhile since I decieded to make my own build

Professions:
Assassin/*

Attributes:

- I use these attributes because I want my Dagger Mastery high, for more crit chance and more effective skill usage, and I want 13 in Critical hits because it is the break-point for 3 energy per critical hit.

Armor and Weapons:

- Note that the attunement and radiant is my own preferance, I enjoy having alot of energy. I have also tried this with Survivor Insignia and Nightstalker's Insignia, so I recommend any of these 3.
Imo you will have decent defense so Im fine with the Radiants.

Also if you cannot afford an Superior Vigor which tends to cost a bit of money, then just buy the most expensive you can afford.

- I use the Ungues of the Forgotten because it has the mods I find most effective.
I would say try to recreate this weapon or buy the green.
It makes energy easy to manage and it gives you some extra health.
Instead of 15^50 you could aswell use 15% While enchanted modification.
Do not forget to customize your daggers, we want that +20% damage! :)

Skills:

Palm Strike[Elite]
  • Target touched foe takes 75 damage. This skill counts as an off-hand attack.
  • 5 Energy
  • 3/4 Cast time
  • 10 Seconds Recharge time

Horns of the Ox
  • Must follow an off-hand attack. If it hits, Horns of the Ox strikes for +30 damage. If struck foe is not adjacent to any allies, that foe is knocked down.
  • 5 Energy
  • 12 Seconds Recharge time

Falling Spider
  • Must strike a knocked-down foe. If it hits, Falling Spider strikes for +35 damage and target foe is Poisoned for 20 seconds.
  • 5 Energy
  • 8 Seconds Recharge time

Twisting Fangs
  • Must follow an off-hand attack. If it hits, Twisting Fangs strikes for +20 damage and struck foe suffers from Bleeding and Deep Wound for 20 seconds.
  • 10 Energy
  • 15 Seconds Recharge time

Malicious Strike
  • If this attack hits a foe suffering from a Condition, you deal +27 damage and this attack results in a critical hit.
  • 5 Energy
  • 6 Seconds Recharge time

Critical Agility
  • For 4 seconds and 1 second for each rank of Critical Strikes, you attack 33% faster and gain +10...22 armor. This Skill reapplies itself every time you land a critical hit.
  • 5 Energy
  • 1 Second cast time
  • 30 Seconds Recharge time

Feigned Neutrality
  • For 7 seconds, you have +7 Health regeneration and +80 armor. This Enchantment ends if you successfully hit with an attack or use a Skill.
  • 5 Energy
  • 1/4 Second cast time
  • 25 Seconds Recharge time

Resurrection Signet
  • Resurrect target party member. That party member is returned to life with 100% Health and 25% Energy. This signet only recharges when you gain a Morale Boost.
  • 3 Second cast time

Note that this skill can be replaced by ressurection skill of your choice.

Usage:
  • Locate a target. As you know the less armor the target has, the easier to kill. (In most cases.)
  • Run up to your target, and cast Critical Agility
  • Now unleash your combo, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
  • If target is not dead, you can either wait for the chain to reload, or if it is low on health, another Malicious Strike.
  • If you find yourself low on health, retreat and cast Feigned Neutrality.
  • Use your ressurection skill on fallen allies.

Pros+
  • High damage, fairly fast to unleashe chain due to IAS
  • Has IAS
  • Defense while attacking
  • Self heal/defense for a short time when really needed
  • Requires no hex that can be removed to start chain
  • Gives -7 degen from conditions and a deep wound.
  • KD

Cons-
  • Has no hex/cover hex
  • Nothing against block/dangerous condtions as blind.
  • Fairly conditional KD, if target is not alone = chain fail.
  • Hard to find PvE mobs thats not alone.

Last Words:
If you approach an group of enemies and realise that none of the enemies are alone in the meaning of not adjacent to another, you skip Horns of the Ox and Falling spider and jump straight through to Twisting Fangs, Malicious Strike.

I would like to have constructive comments aswell, so my next guide will be a better one.

I wouldn't use Horns/Falling combo on a "PvE sin". :\
Perhaps you should try to fit Death Blossom in there somewhere.

  medium_eddie on 08/30/07 22:38

horns of the ox is pretty unlikely to knockdown in pve, especially since as a sin you usually attack the casters, which tend to mob up. And for that same reason, you should try sticking Death Blossom in there too.

oh wow, as im typing this I read pickletron's post and see he said the exact same things, haha.

also, the Shadow Prison build works great in PvE imo, i just put deaths retreat in there.

  Nyoxis on 08/31/07 08:11

wtf...assasinz cnat b used 4 pve!!!!!1111

Nice guide mate- loving the armour too. =)

  Hijaru Ta on 08/31/07 15:35

yah...sorry to tell this, but sins aren't really made for PvE
but you can use this build for PvP imo, replace Palm Strike with Seeping Wound [E] the degen you give with Falling Spider will kill your opponent faster with Seeping Wound, and because they see the fast degen they will go like: 'OMFGWTFBBQ HAV2HEAL MYSELF!!!'
you can kill them easily while they try to heal themselves :P, and the knockdowns are also good for runners ^^
Imagine: you set your eyes on a target, you cast seeping wound, he will go like: omg i feel like running, he tries to run, you KD him and give him the poison.
now he has three choices:
1- Run and die from degen
2- Run and cast healing spell, so you can catch up and kill him
3- Stand still, do nothing, because he knows he's dead...
(this is btw AB i'm talking about, and i just hate runners so i try to make an anti runner build :P)

Thankss for all comments, its all appriciated people take time and read and want to hAlp me improve !
However I do not agree with this:

If sins are not for PvE, how is this possible?

Private server?
okay you outsmarted me there lol :P
but i prefer assassins skills for AB rather then for PvE, how many times do you see a monster walking alone? (don't answer that one)
However, i maybe have a build that can work for PvE (haven't tested, it uses EotN skills which i don't have yet, but i got them unlocked in the preview weekend) It uses Trampling Ox, maybe an idea for a next build of yours?

  J A C K on 09/01/07 11:14

i like to use my moebius build in pve mostly or sumtimes my AP one...

i think the build could be better but i rly like the crit agility, i use it in my pve builds always

  thaskippy on 09/01/07 13:32

hmz horns of the ox CAN work in pve as i used the same attack combo with my first assassin. (without malicious strike ofcourse as it's a nightfall skill) but i don't think it is a good skill for pve, maybe consider swapping horns of the ox and falling spider for death blossom and golden phoenix strike ? btw put critical strikes to 11 and dagger mastery to 12 and then put a major on both these attributes as this will result in +5 health. (although +5 is nothing...)

and for Hijaru Ta
QUOTE

you need palm strike to trigger horns of the ox/twisting fangs...

QUOTE
and the knockdowns are also good for runners

doesn't work that great without a speed boost.

anyways i geuss it is a good build but there are better (and worse ofcourse just look at my builds...)

  Macarian on 09/02/07 11:29

personnally I dont think this build could rly work well in pve (if it does, I apologise) Horns of the Ox is just too conditional for pve, I do use it myself as KD is extremely handy in both pve and pvp but I combine it with moebius to link it with twisting fangs (so the chain doesnt break if the KD doesnt happen) and not falling spider as you cant rly rely on HotO to KD in pve thus, as you said breaking the chain (which will render any sin useless)

  eiirish on 09/02/07 12:28

About HotO and FS I know it is conditional as hell
But PvE enemies arent really grouped always, especially not if you carry an character with you which uses AoE (they scatter). So you could actually turn something bad to something good.
Either they stand in AoE, taking lots of dmg, or they scatter, and you can complete full chain.

And I also wanna say that every enemies cannot be knocked down, so watch out!

I also want more people to read this line from the guide, regarding HotO

QUOTE
If you approach an group of enemies and realise that none of the enemies are alone in the meaning of not adjacent to another, you skip Horns of the Ox and Falling spider and jump straight through to Twisting Fangs, Malicious Strike.

Yes I know the chain wont damage as much or inflict any poision, but its better than nothing.

Once again thankss all for pointing out stuff

Charlotte The Harlot on 09/02/07 23:49

hoto in pve is questionable but if you wanna essentially keep your combo i would run gold phoenix over palm strike and use a better elite. You could also drop hoto and falling spider and go Gps dual palm strike dual for something similar that probably has more dmg. Although a single target spike once per 15 seconds doesnt look useful in pve.

  Survivingsin on 09/03/07 01:26

/Bow for the sin, first time ive actually been impressed by what someone else has done with a characater in PvE/PvP really PvX lol. Thats truly an amazing pic lol.
/meh for the build
I've never liked palm strike for a few reasons: After cast, just weaker compared to other elites, and it forces it to be a spike build, which it then fails at being due to after cast.

QUOTE
yah...sorry to tell this, but sins aren't really made for PvE

Moebius strike + Death blossum + Critical agility out DPS's an ele Easiliy. Sins are not weak in the frontline, in good groups that +19 armor a warrior has means NOTHING and instead its all based on DPS, thus the sin wins pve. Thanks to Critical agility, sins are even more viable than before.

As for the build, I think the Sup rune is too much, I would make it a major and save the 40 health instead of gaining only +1 att.

IMHO, seeping wound is almost as underpowered as dark apostasy.

I can tell you Seeping Wound is NOT underpowered, it isn't overpowered either. but hey it's your opinion :P, everyone has their different play style ^^

+3 degen isn't elite worthy to me if they are going to die by my deep wound and high damage anyway. Dark apostasy at least has an ok effect.

King Of Dark Dragon on 09/03/07 21:34

i would try this but i deleted my sin a while back,

i think the degen ADDS up, take a look at this Wiki Seeping Wound and then read the notes ^^

  Macarian on 09/05/07 08:58

Seeping wound is meant for pressure by upping degen, but alot of ppl prefer to play their sins more as a spiker so other elites are more viable for them, it really just depends on the build your using

nice guide  Jamnog on 09/06/07 18:12

I have just taken a shine to sin thanks to thease cool tomes.
Anyway I found I can make a build to take out a specific prof (mostly from advise from other sins in an alliance im with).

I find that zipping in and zipping out is the best part of being a sin
so I use :
1 : shadow of haste
2 : golden fox strike (unblock able see number 6)
3 : wild strike (this one is one i see used allot and i copy bits from here and there ya know. It strips their stance to let the rest have their fun)
4 : death blossom handy if they mob or handy double hit (all his friends take you best hit with him)
5 : flashing blades (chance 75% to block)
6 : critical agility (sunspear title track please check this out it rawks)
7 : feighned nutrality
8 : sunspear sig but well any res is good (top marks for putting res in )
16 dag
11 shad
10 crit

Now I know what your thinking wtf he put in flashing blades and shadow of haste... yeah if im in trouble I want to be where i activated shadow of haste (ie some place else), and I want to be able to block stuff so I can use feighned nutrality.

The rest is just hitting stuff? not really one thing I hate as a necro is being interupted by those naughty rangers (whirling defence) and warriors (any stance), and those are just the types to think that a sin is a kind of squishy. Well I am and if there is one thing I learned being a necro that applies to sin its:

be a coward.
dont draw agro.
If you can kill it before it can hit you you win.
If you cant kill it before it kills you heal.
healing is a monsters favourite time to use an interrupt.
monsters are stupid the best time is when your killing them :S.
stances clearly dont make you invincible (if they can be removed for all the world to see ure dirty washing).
and this last hint is from jarm never attack a mesmer you have a team to do that.

As for the type of blades there I would suggest you get cold damage blades and equip one of your hero necro with spinal shivers and a pretty smile. Casters esp ele will have a hard job doing anything to hurt you if they cant do anything at all... did I leave anything out... hmm yes I did I have 4 types of blade on my wepon slot vamp, zelouse, sundering and cold each for a different foe and i swap and change my build allot this build is primarily for margonites. test and change the build for every area because all tho this is effective and has got me to the margonites the minimum of 3 attack skills leaves me feeling specialized the damage I do its great fun and there are few situations that cant be overcome as part of the team.
you can zip in and interupt put on a load of conditions and zip back out again

I like the kd on your build but the recharge times kinda harsh
people like to put sin down because either they haven't tried it or because they have had a bad experience. But you have to die a few times to learn the more you play it the more you realise. Infact sin is better in pve than people realise. I like your guide because you put lots of thought into it and I can see that you enjoy playing sin more importantly I think it will encourage other people to try sin even if its just on their own (well maybee brink tahk and dunk). anyway if you read all that wd you also now go make a sin and try this guys build :D

  Macarian on 09/07/07 02:04

tbh honest your wasting your elite skill, you dont need block if your far away from danger anyway

sometimes im not  Jamnog on 09/07/07 08:19

thanks for the advise

  Survivingsin on 09/07/07 15:58

QUOTE

Thanks, ill go to the talk page and make them take off the word DEVASTATING because that is NOT true. 3 more degen is nothing when you already got -7. In basically any combo degen is a small factor, even in pressure builds. So in a spike, the effect is weak, in a pressure build the effect is weak, in a shutdown build, effect is weak.

And about the Shadow of haste + Flashing blades, you have to attack so even if you are out of the water the elite does nothing, take dash or deadly paradox instead.

  poisened guy on 09/08/07 09:53

i dont really like seeping wound bc the -3isn't very useful in a spike. But if ur a condition sin(i'm not a condition sin) it is very handy i often prefer moebius strike bc if my target isnt dead yet i can keep casting dual attacks until he's dead
but thats just my opinion

  poisened guy on 09/08/07 09:54

and forgot to say,a very nice build only the horns of the ox falling spider could fail when foe isnt standing alone

  Wyat_hawke on 09/10/07 08:53

the Death Blossom + Moebius combo will still be better than this build frankly... =/

  Barbos on 09/11/07 08:50

Depends how well can u use ur sin since most sins are kinda dumb they rush in and die quickly. i would say sin/me is best with double shadow form u can deal tons of damage , stay invul to any atacks and no need for heals( monks hate healin sins)

  eiirish on 09/11/07 09:05

Originality ftl me guesses
