Cyclone Splinter
A different Melee Ritualist alternative to the Rt/D if you don’t have Nightfall or if you just don’t like Scythes. :P
Profession: Ritualist/Warrior
Why an Rt/W?
Reason it’s not a W/Rt is the fact that this has more damage potential than a W/Rt. Despite the lack of heavy armor, the faster kills and ability to maintain damage through more energy in my mind is better survivability. The other reason is there are too many Warriors and not enough Ritualists! Just kidding, it’s just a fun build to try out and if done right is awesome!
Attributes:
Armor
I use Ghost Forge insignias for getting up close and personal initially, because Splinter Weapon has a fairly long duration, I’ll pre-cast it prior to entering into a fray. Doing this really increases the survivability of this. Even when groups aren’t tight enough to use Splinter Weapon on I’ll still keep it activated to retain the armor bonus. The extra attunement isn’t really needed, though it doesn’t hurt to have more energy.
Weapons and Offhand:
Victo’s Axe is relatively inexpensive and does a good job for what it needs to do! The shield I chose is used because I tend to use 2 stances with this build and they’re almost always up in combat.
Skills:
Note: I left a blank skill slot as you can decide to take a self-heal if you want, another stance, or something of your own. It’s up to you. I’m used to AMP monks so I tend to bring something crazy like Ancestors Rage to add extra kick or another stance so the monks needn’t work so hard trying to keep up with my armor deficiency.
Using the Skills:
A lot of numbers are off screen, but this dealt exactly 800 splinter damage and 97 damage from Cyclone Axe on 4 Foes.
Prior to combat, I’ll cast Splinter Weapon, Followed by Grasping Was Kuurong, I’ll then run into the fray, looking for a small cluster of enemies. If I find a good, tight group before I reach them on foot I’ll cast Spirit Rift, if not, then I wait until I need to use it to maximize it. Once the foes are reached, I drop the ashes knocking down all nearby enemies and inflicting 75 damage; regardless of AL. I then Cyclone Axe the group, causing massive Splinter Weapon damage. For the rest of the attack, I continue to use Splinter Weapon as much as I can with Cyclone Axe until the group is depleted. This doesn’t take long. If there is a foe not worth using Cyclone Axe and Splinter weapon on I’ll use Spirit Rift and Grasping Was Kuurong on the enemy.
Detination of Grasping Was Kuurong and Spirit Rift.
For defense, I use Watch Yourself to up my armor further as well as my parties. Bonetti’s Defense is used to regain energy along with a very good block rate. My other stance will reflect what my party needs or the mission would benefit from, anywhere from Defensive Stance to Deflect Arrows. I choose to use stances and shouts because of their instant activation and some are adrenaline, which I’m gaining through striking opponents. Using adrenaline skills greatly increases the amount of energy I can maintain on the battlefield.
If the monks tend to be unstable, bring a tactics based self-heal along.
Flesh of My Flesh is the reusable resurrect skill that’s often needed.
Cons:
Being blinded has an effect on the output of Splinter Weapon and Cyclone Axe, as well as building adrenaline for Watch Yourself and Bonetti’s Defense, but you still can deal damage through Spirit Rift and Grasping Was Kuurong if you are blinded. If you’re energy is tapped you can strike away with your axe, so either way you can still do some damage regardless of what’s effecting you. Of course if you’re so unfortunate to be blinded, tapped of energy, and unable to gain adrenaline then you’re likely in a bit over your head and should scurry back to your group and tell the enemy to pick on someone else!
Alternate Skills:
If exhaustion is not a concern as there is a lack of sustained fighting, then Ancestor’s Rage works really well in place of Spirit Rift, it casts very fast unlike Rift and does a good deal of damage.
If fighting with a large contingency of melee fighters, then Clamor of Souls works well as the Elite, it also casts quickly and does a good amount of damage, it also charges faster than Grasping Was Kuurong, though I like the latter for its knockdown and generic damage.
Stances / Shouts to fit a specific situation can be substituted at anytime.
The Build in Action: Pictures From the Front Line.
Only 1 Foe was struck with the Axe, but Spirit Rift did some good AoE to make up for the loose group.
Another combination strike.
Thanks for reading and have fun, cya in game!
