So after the great reception people gave my Desert running guide and a suggestion to make guides from Ascalon to Sanctum Cay here's part 1 of 3 from Ascalon to Yak's Bend!
The build for this run: You need a full bar of skills since you will have to deal with damage, conditions and hexes. This is what I happened to use but any running build as long as you're comfortable with it will do and likewise with Rangers.
Ascalon to Piken Square
Starting from Ascalon head right under the arch and keep running North along the old wall
Run past the Balthazar statue and head for the gate up in the corner and the next zone
Make your way through the ruins, down the stairs and turn right under the bridge heading for the passage
From the passage take the path leading up to the ruins on the hill. Run past these and on to Piken Square
Piken Square to Grendich Courthouse
Leave Piken and head for the listing rock on the skyline, take the passage behind the rock
When you get to the Charr defences you can either carry straight on and turn right at the end of the path or follow the small pathway through the hills
Cross the bridge and head for the portal to the next zone
Run straight ahead following the path North West
Opposite the small ruin on the hill is a cut though the hills
Just keep following the arrows.....
There are 3 mobs of Charr and a mob of Gargoyles over the hill, if all 4 mobs get you there are enough Mesmers to kill you!
After running past the Charr turn right down the hill
As you come around the corner you should see the Courthouse
Grendich Courthouse to Yak's Bend
Leave the Courthouse the same way you came in running back through the mobs of Charr
At this point you can choose which way to run depending on the Gargoyles. Usually they group more on the South side but take a look before you run in just to be sure
I know I'm going to agro this guy so I cast Holy Veil before hand. As soon as the Gargoyle casts Burden on me I can remove it and Sprint away before the rest of the mob gets into casting distance and slows me again.
Once past the Gargoyles run through the Charr on the bridge and head for the pass and portal to the next zone
Run along the passage past the Hydras and through the large gateway
Pick your route carefully through the debris so you don't get pinned. I often find that the Elementals here cause a lot of rubber banding
Once past the Balthazar statue and over the bridge head right to the portal
Turn right and keep the wall to your right and you can't miss Yak's Bend
You'll start to encounter Pin Down and Ice Spikes both of which slow you down. Where there are multiple enemies wait for them all to cast before you use Remove Hex otherwise they will simply re-hex you.
Hang a right at the broken down walls for Yak's Bend
And there you go...the easy bit done!
Part 2 will take you from Yak's bend to Lion's Arch including of course Beacon's Perch which is where, if you're running for cash, most of your customers will be heading. It's always worth pointing out to people tho that it's cheaper to let you run them to LA and then go to Cantha for their armour!!
