Running the Crystal Desert

I haven't seen a full guide for this before so here we go. This guide is short but has loads of pictures so you're gonna have to scroll!

I've seen a lot of bad runners in the Desert drawn in by the easy cash that can be made, some get lost and others die cursing that it's a tough run! So here's a build that uses 2 skills to run the whole thing in about 10 mins.




Build:



I used Charge since it happened to be in my bar, you could use Enraging Charge making this an Eliteless build for anyone to run. Also you could use any class which has 2 run skills available, I've done this with a Ranger and a Sin. The attribs in Healing are left there for the healing skills I removed in case you feel the need to take a Breeze along. Also I forgot to change my helm until Destiny's so from Augury to Destiny's Gorge I only had 9 seconds of Charge.




Augury to Destiny's Gorge:



Leave Augury from the North portal and follow the path North East initially heading for the pass in the rocks



As you come to the cliffs you will see that path turns South East, follow it through and hang a left heading for the dark green of the riverbed.




Don't worry about Meteors since they always fall behind you unless you stop.



The entrance to Destiny's is hidden up in the rocks.






Destiny's to Thirsty River



This is the easiest run of the lot. Head left out of Destiny's South portal and wall hug East then South until you meet the Giants.




Head down the gully and follow it towards the masts you can see in the distance



Somewhere in this area is a Worm but it doesn't bother you if you stick to the lighter coloured sand



A mob of Enchanted's guard the teleporter but they don't follow if you run past doam the left hand wall



Once you're at the teleporter key in the code and run through.



Head through the rocks and past the Scarabs into Thirsty River



Now map the team back to Destiny's Gorge




Destiny's Gorge to Elona Reach




North out of Destiny's this time and keep right through the Losaru



Look out for Diversion here, if you use a skill while hexed with it the skill takes an extra 30+ seconds to recharge. Look for the lone tree on the right and head up past it giving the walls a wide berth so you don't get trapped by Devourers and run through the portal.



Head right out from under the gantry and aim for the sandbar headlands



Don't use the teleporter unless you have someone to keep the Scarabs away, instead run in a shallow arc to the next headland avoiding the open space and a Worm.



Turn North through the passage and head for the middle column...



then West toward the large black rock which marks the entrance to Elona Reach






Augury Rock to Hero's Audience



Head West out of Augury and turn South into the first passage



Run South West and as youcome over the dunes you'll see the entrance to Hero's Audience



Watch out for the Sand Elementals, never try and run between them as they knock you down with Shock






Hero's Audience to Dune's of Despair




Run East out of Hero's Audience avoiding the Sand Elementals then under the vertebre arch to the portal



A Worm often spawns here and may knock you down once but it turns it's attention to the Scarb and Devourer which spawn with it. Run on while the fight.



Once through the portal run South until you come out from between the sand bars, turn sharp East then South again around the next sand bar and head for the right hand rock.



Stick to the rock and pick up the tail of Gryphons and Scarabs then turn sharp right infront of the next rock to turn down a small passage in the dunes





Turn South again past the 3 waiting Gryphons and head down the passage under the scaffolding, at the end turn right and the Dunes portal will be right in front of you.






Extra: Augury to Seekers Passage



Leave West from Augury but head North around the dunes. Ignore the teleporter and run right around the edge of the greenery then left back up the slope to the portal.



There might be a lot of Mesmers but they don't hurt too much if you don't attack them.





Once through the portal run up the wooden ramp and straight on towards the gap in the rocks



Once you reach the gap you can see the entrance to Seekers.






And that's it...the whole desert in double quick time with 2 skills. Now obviously you could put balanced stance and some healing on your bar to make it just a little easier, I only did it with 2 skills just to show how easy it really is!

1. Nice run but Amnoon thru whole desert is where the money's at.

Running this with a Ranger I'd use Escape and Storm Chaser and follow exactly the same route.

What's yer stance, no pun intended, on people you're running trying to follow you? Specifically when you get to teleporter switches.

Well the only teleporter I use is the one on the way to Thirsty and tbh if they can follow me that far they don't need to be run. If they drag the mob chances are they'll die first or screw up the run they needed.

I don't actually run this for profit, I help out people I know when they need it but I do use runners when I want to get a new char around quickly and it bugs me how bad some of them can be.

I didn't do the bit from Amnoon to Augury because I don't think I can do it with just the 2 run skills and since I never spend much time in Amnoon I've not seen runners advertising there unlike Augury.
I'll have a play sometime soon and see what I can do.

I've made a short vid running from Amnoon to Augury with just the 2 skills...turns out I can do it! It was a little to awkward to explain with pics.

They're uploading to youtube atm but since I've only got 28k up it's taking a while. I'l post the links soon.

OK here it is...Amnoon Oasis to Augury Rock. The split is just where I stood still and regen'd for a few mins, didn't want that in the vid.

Hope these work: Amnoon -> Augury 1 -- Amnoon -> Augury 2

Quality was great when I uploaded but youtube made it grainy :/

You can do this with only 1 skill and faster.
Charging Strike run 33% faster - 100% of the time.

ok thats a pretty bad run build for a ranger and i talkin bout both.

the first one, orison, breeze AND mending!?!? thats way too much healing. the second, pet!?!?! wtf. also you have 4 run stances, all with 30 sec recharge and they all total 58 secs. one more thing: troll is aweful for running. if you get into an emergency situation, that would mean 3 seconds of stand still for enimies to catch up, attack you, potentially cripple and possibly kill you.

if you run ranger:
Dodge
zojuns haste
escape
heal area

thats all you really need 12 exp. 12 heal

be kool and be smart.

Very nice guide Keo. I happen to have run there as well today to map out some things around there, and i found a few additional skills very handy in times of trouble/unexpected spawns/etc.
Balanced Stance - stone elementals and wurms. Charge+BS makes you get way quick
Healing Breeze - its full of necro scarabs there, if you get low its a nice way to get your health back
Mend Ailment - to counter the crippling of the enchanted swordsmen (which could happen during lagg or bad luck)
Holy Veil - Very nice counter against the necro scarabs as well

But very nice indepth guide ^^

Very nice. I really didnt think you could run it with only 2 skills. What I use is signet of stamina which gives +200 hp until u hit with an attack and mending touch along with restful breeze. I was so surprised to see your skillbar with only 2 skills. Very nice in-depth guide!

ok i must thank you...after looking at your guide i tried to go run it with my ranger...


i now can run anywhere in desert and am making 10k+ an hour


i use this

Expetise 16
Healing 10 (i think)

Escape
Dodge
Zojuns
Whirling
Orison of Healing/Heal Area (optional)
Healing Breeze
Mending
Holy Veil

Due to the fac that there are giants/losaru/scarabs i bring holy veil so that the dont hex me and they dont stip mending
with a 16 EXP if you only use the next stance when the current one is flashing your eng recharges
that leaves you eng for emergency healing

the only time ive died was on a dunes run...i got lost lol
this is an EXELENT guide

you Ought to make one just like it for LA-> Sanctum and include a ranger part if you want

pet, as stated is for fun/fodder, call of haste could be swapped with run as one fwiw
smart
whirling d and troll u are perfect for when surrounded and there is incomming ranged attacks, the aoe makes surrounding melee back off, but that's only if you let yourself get body blocked.

Keo....great guide.

I used to do this run quite a bit for guildies and there's one spot that might actually speed up a section of your run for you. When going from Augury Rock to Seeker's Passage, after you pass the Mesmers and go through the portal, just "get naked and die". Since there is no rez shrine near that zone portal, you rez right by Seeker's Passage. You won't actually have to run through the Salt Flats to get there. Whenever I was running people to Seeker's they'd always doubt me as to why I have everyone die. It's probably some kind of unintended glitch. I actually figured it out by accident. Give it a try....it works.

When I did it to make a little money, I'd charge 2k total and it was pay as you go. 300g at each town, then 200g at Thirsty River. The order I did it was....

Amnoon -> Hero's -> Dunes -> Map to Hero's -> Augury -> Seeker's -> Map to Augury -> Elona Reach -> Map to Augury -> Destiny's Gorge -> Thirsty River.

I would accept payment upon arrival at a new town and the whole group would have to pay before I mapped to a town. You can run on the honor system, but there are alot of people just looking for free rides. The other thing is that I would never go to Augury first. Most people just want to get there and only there as it's really the hardest part of the run, so as soon as you arrive, they leave the group. Now, I only do this run for guildies and just pick people up in Amnoon if they're looking for a run. If they ditch on me I don't really care because I'm doing the run for my guildies, not them.

A run should take you around 30 minutes.

hehe i kinda laughed when all i saw in the build was 2 running skills. Also the mesmers on the way to thirsty have backfire now. I run it on my ele when i need some quick cash.

Very well explained with the pictures but it seems like you have to kno the run to be able to use the.....build to make it. obviously if something goes wrong, ur gonna die.

jfarris964 - Neat trick with the dying unless you have someone going for survivor!

Survivingsin - The only things I've found that can go wrong are lag related. Sometimes I'll run past a mob and then be crippled or KD'd in the middle of nowhere just to band back half a mile to a huge mob. As for knowing the run I kinda hope the maps will help with that!
As for the build I was only proving a point that it can be done, it's far far safer and it takes the pressure off to use the whole bar.

I'm a bit random with running bars tho, I've just made the Asc to LA guide (not sure if it'll make it to the site tho) and I took heal sig but left 10 in Healing. I tend to chuck in whatever I feel like at the time. I do however go for strength running where you rely on brute force to get through and worry about healing later!
