A S C E N S I O N

This guide is meant to give new players an idea of what this thing called “Ascension” is and why it is beneficial to your character. We will walk you through the steps necessary to get your character ascended in any campaign. We have also tried to include some helpful hints and guides along the way, to make your climb into the elite more enjoyable. So sit back, relax and enjoy the wonderful world of… ASCENSION!

All characters, when they reach a certain point in the game, have an opportunity to become “ascended.” Ascension brings two benefits to the character:

1. They gain access to the Realms of the Gods (the Underworld and the Fissure of Woe).

2. They gain the ability to change their secondary profession.

In each campaign (Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall), Ascension is earned in a different way and has different meaning:

Tyria (Prophecies)

Ascension in Tyria means that your character has received a hallowed, legendary status. Essentially, they have earned the blessing of the Gods of Tyria.

Here’s how you become ascended in Tyria:

1. Find your way to The Crystal Desert.

2. Once there, you need to complete the following Missions (they can be completed in any order):

3. After you have completed each Mission, find your way back to Augury Rock.

4. Speak to Great Ritual Priest Zahmut and gain access to the Mesa.

5. Once you’ve zoned into the Mesa, you will need step on the 3 runes on the ground (glowing) to open the portal to the Mesa cave.

6. The final task you’ll have to go through is defeating your Doppelganger in the Mesa cave. Your Doppelganger is a mirror of your character, even though it doesn’t look like you. It possesses the same skills as are in your skill bar and is armed with both an Eternal Bow and a Chaos Axe. Your task is simple: defeat your Doppelganger before it defeats you. Here are a few guides to help you in defeating your Doppelganger:
7. Once you have defeated your Doppelganger, you are Ascended! You will then be taken to The Dragon's Lair to continue on in Tyria.

Cantha (Factions)

In Cantha, ascension is not called “ascension” but rather Weh No Su, or “Closer to the stars.” It is believed that to defeat Shiro Tagachi, one must become enlightened enough to be able to see the Envoys from the immortal world. Hence the need to become Weh No Su.

Here is how to become Weh No Su or “Closer to the Stars:”

1. First you must have completed the Finding the Oracle quest.

2. Then you must obtain the quest Closer to the Stars from Nika in Bukdek Byway.

3. Here is a guide to the completion of the Closer to the Stars quest.

4. After completion of this quest, you will arrive in Nahpui Quarter and must complete the mission there.

5. Once you have successfully completed the Nahpui Quarter mission, you are considered Weh No Su or ascended in Cantha.

6. Upon completion of this mission, you will find yourself in Senji's Corner.

Elona (Nightfall)

Ascension does not factor in to the storyline of Nightfall. Rather, through the completion of quests, one gains the benefits of Ascension mentioned above, but it is not essential for the continuation of the storyline.

Here is how you become ascended in Elona:

1. After the failed attempt of an assault on Ganadara, you will find yourself in Yohlon Haven.

2. Obtain the quest entitled Hunted! from Sunspear Modiki.

3. Simply follow the quest through its completion. It will take you from Yohlon Haven, through the Marga Coast to Ronjok. There you will meet with Elder Jonah, who will tell you about a sanctuary in which the defeated Sunspears can take refuge. Once you’ve talked with Guardsman Bahsi, he will grant you access to an explorable version of Sunspear Sanctuary. Once you’ve vanquished the insect hordes there, you will be mapped to the outpost of Sunspear Sanctuary.

4. Talk to Lonai and receive your reward for completing the quest.

5. You are now “ascended” in Elona!

Notes

  • Any characters, regardless of where they were born, can attain Ascension in Tyria and Cantha. Only Elona-born characters can attain Ascension in Elona.

Very nice =) good guide!

Charlotte The Harlot on 03/11/07 16:27

ascension isnt neccisary for changing your second prof, you can go to the great temple of balthazar

  Balthamos on 03/11/07 16:46

Just a small user note, you made the title to the guide "A S C E N S I O N", while this may look nice and pretty if people searching for this in the guides section will not find it, because it will not show up when a search is made. A better title would have been "How to Ascend" or even just "Ascension" to make it easier for anyone else who is trying to search through our guides section.

The True Myth on 03/11/07 17:00

Its true you cant change your secondary before you ascend, other than that, Great Guide! really nice and helpful =)

I'm pretty sure that the doppel wields a tormented spear instead of a eternal bow now. Your guide looks very nice :)

  Mimori on 03/12/07 21:41

Nice Setup.

  tmakinen on 03/13/07 05:26

Just one pertinent piece of information. When ascending in Tyria, you get a unique reward of 50,000 XP only if you haven't already ascended elsewhere! Therefore, it is very much recommended to take non-Tyrian characters to Tyria before ascending in their native territory, especially if you're working for the survivor title.

  TheBeano on 03/13/07 10:03

Thanks everyone for your comments! They have all be quite constructive and I appreciate them very much. Keep them coming!

  uwish on 03/13/07 15:43

This is a very good guide.
I have always wounder when I ascended in elona.
I love the way you have made the guide.
It's very simpelt and easy to understand.
Thank yo very much

  Chrisworld on 03/13/07 19:22

you know...i actually was able to change my dervs professions when i got to lvl 17...weird because i never ascended..but cool

  Mesmer Master on 03/14/07 11:34

I'm going Add the Mesmer Guide to Defeating the Mirror Self, I got screens and the perfect skillbar. I defeated my Mirror Self in less than 50 seconds.

As for the comment about switching secondaries. Let me clarify.

PvP characters can switch at any time. You dont need to be in the temple to do this either, open up the skill dialog box and use the pull down where its say your primary class / secondary.

PvE characters can switch in the PvP Temple only if they have completed the QUEST for that secondary. AND Skills purchased in PvP Temple will not transfer to PvE !!! So dont try to be smart and purchase an Elite Skill in the PvP Temple and try to map back PvE thinking you still got it. Fat Chance!

Also note that sometimes the Doppelganger is knowned to use a sword or a scythe. Just be ready for anything.

Last 2 times i brought a character to my dopple (NF was already released) the dopple wielded a spear >.>

  Mesmer Master on 03/15/07 18:15

Almost forgot the Most Important Thing about the Secondary Quests, you do have to be Ascended (atlteast from what I know in Tyria).

You will need the Quest called "Heros Journey" which you take from a NPC Vanyi (she is on the same side as the Vision of Glint Alter of Droks but further down). That quest that will tell you to go 3 places in the Crystal Desert. Once complete, you can go find the trainers in the Crystal Desert and do the secondary quests.

Secondaries
-----------------------------------------------
Heros Audience:
Path of Necro & Path of Elemenist

The Scar:
Path of Mesmer & Path of Warrior

Salt Flats:
Path of Ranger & Path of Monk

If you need help finding these places or help completing this quests. Send me a PM and I will get you there. Just a recommendation for all you other classes take the Mesmer Secondary (-you know you want to) :P

ive dont all the quest and got the rewards, but where is the profession changer? (Nightfall)

  TheBeano on 04/01/07 16:20

Senji's Corner.

  KerwynNasilan on 04/10/07 22:28

I dont know about the acension in Elona, i did that thing with my Prophicies guy. Do you mean it doesnt count as acension 'cause that would make more sense.

  TheBeano on 04/11/07 00:29

This note at the end of the guide should answer your question:
QUOTE
Any characters, regardless of where they were born, can attain Ascension in Tyria and Cantha. Only Elona-born characters can attain Ascension in Elona.

So in other words, your Tyrian character cannot ascend in Elona.
