Hi, this is my first guide and I hope you all like it.
This build is all about making sure casters have almost no chance to cast their spells against you or your group.
The Build
The Attributes
Equipment
Weapons
Targets
Monks, Necromancers, Elementalists, and Mesmers are the ones you should find. One, these are casters you're supposed to stop. Two, they have the lowest max armors in the whole game, so they're easy prey.
How This Build Works
Before going into combat with anyone, be sure to activate Read the Wind. Your primary target should be finding casters. Casters that are seperated from their group would be very easy for you.
Quickly use Pin Down to make sure they can't escape from you. They'll be very likely to start casting short cast time spells against you such as Flare, Vampiric Gaze, and Conjure Phantasm. Once you've used this build for a long enough time, you know by instinct when to start interrupting them. --Early on, you will likely die and maybe not interrupt them at all.-- Once they start casting spells that take 2 seconds or more, it'll be really easy to finish them off. You have to chain each attack together like assassins. Immediately use Savage Shotonce Punishing Shot hits and use Distracting Shot once Savage Shot hits. This will reduce up to half their health and they'll attempt to run. By the time this happens, Pin Down would have been recharged with one second cripple time left on them, use it immediately and prevent them from running. Punishing Shot and Savage Shot will be recharged and then use them again, this time just use it, interrupting will not be an issue this time around. Depending on if you're lucky enough to hit critically, your target will be defeated. If not, another one or two normal hits will finish them.
With A Group
When PvPing, you should stay in a group or join other groups while in battle. Your role will act as support and you have to be the one calling the target. Your prime target will be Monk => MM => Eles => Mesmers => other casters. Once you've taken out the Monk, they'll have no healing and the rest of the group will crumble quickly. Minions will attack randomly once the master is defeated which could help your party. Once the ele is gone, there will be no nuking like Meteor Shower and Sandstorm. Taking out Mesmers will get rid of the energy denial and no more self-inflicting damage.
The Counters
Warriors: Due to their high armor levels, they should NOT be one of your targets. Warriors will likely attack you when they see you by yourself. If this happens, run to your allies.
Assassin: Though they have low armor levels, their skill chaining will be very devastating to you. Most assassins still use the Horn of Ox/Falling Spider build which will cause poison, Bleeding, and Deep Wound. Some assassins also throw crippling in so they'll defeat you in a few seconds. That's why I put Mending Touch in. If you see a Sin running towards you, use Whirling Defense and like Warriors run to your allies. If they DO hit you with crippling, quickly use Mending Touch and run.
Dervish: Like Sins, they have low armor points, but they are powerful spikers and they have powerful health regen. This doesn't mean they can't be defeated. When you're familiar with the build, you can stop their attacks. Dervishes with Mystic Regeneration will be a tough fight, so when those appear, use your best judgement.
Other Rangers: They are defeatable. When the opposing ranger use Whirling Defense, use it too. The time will be around the same, so after it ends, you can defeat them quickly.
Other Interesting Notes
***Punishing Shot and Savage Shot are a powerful spike. I've done up to 120dmg with Punishing Shot and 80dmg with Savage Shot.
***When confronting other rangers with the same build, let them use the skills first OR use it before them so you can interrupt their shots
***Energy Denial will not be a problem for you, since the expertise will shrink the energy cost down to around 3 or 4.
Since this is my first guide, please give some constructive critism so I can improve on future guides and I hope all of you like it. :D
