P/W Hammergon
This is a PvP paragon build that can be used well in all forms of PvP. It is a far more reliable and far more versatile build compared to others of its type, such as the famous ranger bunny thumper. It uses Focused Anger to charge up a hammer bash in three hits, providing great knockdown pressure.
As you can see, a supior vigor would be best, but for those who can't afford the luxury of one of those a major is fine.
You may wish to exchange Awe for Crushing Blow, inflicting a deep wound and damage instead of daze. However, deep wound is a very common condition in PvP and one of your team is bound to cause it, whereas daze is a very rare condition, as only three non-elite skills can cause it.
You may also like to change AoF for "Lead the Way!" for a speed boost, however in practice AoF, despite its relatively weak effects, is the more useful in this build (can keep aggressive refrain up while out of combat).
In AB change Res Sig for Leader's Comfort for a self-heal.
Use:
Before entering battle, activate Aggressive Refrain, and while out of combat use AoF to keep it on you. It has a very high energy cost, and you do not want to have to re-activate it mid-battle because of this.
Just before you start to attack, use Focused Anger, this will mean you charge "Go for the Eyes!" in two hits, and Hammer Bash n three.
Use AoF and "Go for the Eyes!" frequently enough to maintain Aggressive Refrain on you. Remember not to spam either too much, as AoF uses energy and has an activation time during which you could be swing your hammer, and GftE will slow down your charging of Hammer Bash. However, make sure you use GftE before Hammer Bash, as Hammer Bash will drain all your adrenaline when it is used.
Once fighting use Irresistable Blow on anyone using a blocking stance or enchantment, and also to bolster damage, when charged use Hammer Bash followed immediatly by Awe or Crushing Blow (if you have decided to use it).
This combo should have gained you enough energy from your zealous weapon, and enough adrenaline from hits, to repeat this attack chain. However, Awe won't be able to be used for 20 seconds after the previous use.
Note that from Leadership, every use of GftE will give you back upto 6 energy, which can then be used for irrestisable blow, or saved for AoF, which will gain you upto 1 energy (after subtractinng the activation cost).
Counters:
Energy denial can be a problem early on, but with leadership and adrenaline based skills this is not too much of a problem.
Anti-shout skills such as Vocal Minority will prevent energy gain from leadership and will cause aggressive refrain to end due to inability to maintain it. Furthermore, the shouts can no longer be used to buff your allies either.
General anti-melee counters such as slow down hexes, anti-adrenaline hexes, blind and weakness to name but a few examples.
Notes:
I hope you enjoy this build as much as I have done :)
All comments are welcome :)
The attack animation of a paragon wielding a hammer is great :)
I played this build in GvG before, and it is very effective. Funny story here though is that I used it when I still had not died, I was on 260k xp and on my way to r2 survivor title, but lost it in a GvG match (my guild is not very PvP minded). However, out of 5 battles fought 2 of them I did not die in at all :)
