Soloing The Underworld After the ‘Nerf’ with your Monk!
My first guide : ) Enjoy
By now, most of you are probably aware of the ’55’ concept. Lowering your health as much as possible in order to take less damage after the monk spell – Protective Spirit.
I’ve found a way to farm the Underworld all alone with your monk:
The build, attributes and the equipment:
The skills, from right to left, are:
Protective Spirit
Shield Of Absorption
Sympathetic Visage
Ancestor’s Visage
Illusionary Weaponry [E]
Power Return
Blessed Aura
Balthazar’s Spirit
Personally, I use monk tattoos for the additional energy, but any armour is fine, as long as you have 5 superior monk runes, and a Defenders Head Tattoo (+1 Protection)
The scythe is vital. And a grip of enchanting is really worth investing in, else there is a long gap between casting Shield of Absorption.
I also have a max damage wand, to kill Dying Nightmares with (more later)
Tactic:
Enter the Underworld by going to a Statue of Grenth in Temple of Ages (Prophecies), Zin Ku Corridor (Factions) or Chantry of Secrets (Nightfall).
Kneel by the statue and talk to the voice of Grenth, pay the 1k entrance fee.
Cast spells 7 & 8 and wait for some energy Regeneration.
Bladed Aatxes:
These are fairly straight forward. Keep up Protective Sprit, Shield of Absorption, Illusionary Weaponry and one of the two visages at all times.
Swing away! With your scythe you can attack 3 enemies around you, and Aatxes are usually in groups of 3... Perfect.
Dying Nightmares:
These were put in the Underworld to stop people soloing it, but that’s not a problem. As soon as one pops up, target it, when it starts casting Rend Enchantments, use 6 – Power Return. This will interrupt it, and then switch to the wand I talked about earlier and wand it to death, it only takes 2-3 shots.
Once you have cleared the chamber of Aatxes, take the quest.
Grasping Darkness:
These are easy. But there is 1 thing to remember. Before you aggro a group, put up Protective Spirit, one of your Visages and Shield of Absorption (in that order).
Don’t cast any spells that take more than 1 second to cast in the beginning, because they will interrupt it, after a few seconds, recast Shield of Absorption and use Illusionary Weaponry and swing away. Much the same as Aatxes, but make sure one of the Visages is always up, else they will interrupt you and drain your energy.
Smite Crawlers:
Do the same as Grasping Darkness, as soon as they attack you they will lose energy and lose the ability to heal
Coldfire Nights:
I’m afraid I haven’t killed these yet. They slow you down, interrupt you and are generally a nuisance. Also, the Visages don’t work, as they use ranged attacks. Killing them is pretty much sompletely impossible unless you pull Smites to trigger Visage.
A run to clear the Aatxes, Grasping and Smite Crawlers usually takes 20 mins –30 mins, depending how picky you are and how far into the UW you go.
Advantages:
Easy to use.
It works (I promise!)
Skills are easy to acquire
The drops can be awesome
A lot of exp fairly quickly
Disadvantages:
All of the creatures are above level 20, and so some have a lot of health and die slowly
Miss timing Shield of Absorption can be fatal
If you don’t notice a Dying Nightmare, or 2 spawn at once… You’re dead
