I think I'm going to become notorious for making PvP builds for Elites no-one else ever uses. First the elementalist 'Shatterstone', and now one for the ritualists - I present to you, a Rt/A 'Caretaker's Charge' spike build.

This build requires both Guild Wars: Factions and Guild Wars: Nightfall to run.

Template: A4NynCii8Uwg2JTHnLrBOPFA

And if you don't want to go through that, the image below has all the details you need for Skills, Attribute setup, and Armor/Runes. For this build, a weapon is not needed, so use whatever you feel like.

Usage: This build is designed for PvP - specifically the Random Arenas. I have yet to try it in Alliance Battles, but I would suggest you swap out Resurrection Signet for the ritualist channeling skill 'Renewing Surge'.

Here's a simple run-down of how you run the build in RA.

- Start the match by casting 'Mighty Was Vorizun'. This skill is the most effective 'item' spell I decided on for the build, providing you with a moderate defense boost and making up for the energy lost from not using a weapon.
- Secondly, apply Vital Weapon on yourself. This skill is there to cover the lost health from runes, and simply to let you live longer.
- When you engage an enemy, chose your target based on their movement habits. Cast Spirit Rift to begin the spike.
- Follow up with Channeled Strike - once you finish casting Channeled Strike, Spirit Rift will go off, dealing 280 damage to foes with 60 armor and no extra protection.
- Now cast your elite 'Caretaker's Charge' to deal another 63 damage, and refresh your health and energy.
- If your target is still standing (I found that most of my targets would be reduced to less than 50% health in a single spike, the majority below 33% health) then wait for Spirit Rift to recharge. The moment it is ready, fire it off again, and follow up with Caretaker's Charge (or Channeled Strike, depending on how much health your target has, and whether you need health/energy).

Caretaker's Charge should cover all your healing needs, since I've found very few people will target a ritualist not creating spirits. If in the event you are being attacked, apply Shadow Refuge when suitable for some decent health regeneration.

Your primary source of defense in this build is from your armor insignia's, Mighty Was Vorizun, and of course Dark Escape. If you come under attack from melee, activate Dark Escape and...
- If a monk or healer of sorts is present on your team, and not struggling already, stand your ground and begin attackin your melee assailant.
- If there is no monk or healer present in the team, simply run the hell away. Do not stray too far from your team-mates; stay in their agro zone's so they can provide assistance if you are really in trouble.

So that's it really. There can be variations to this build with the assassin skills by using a different secondary profession, but I am currently very pleased with how this set-up.

Things to note:
This build is highly effective against all foes with 60 armor; some rangers; spirit binding ritualists that cast their spirits in one place.

This build is inefficient against foes with high elemental/lightning resistance; most warriors; anything with protective spirit on it.

This build is countered by shut-down mesmers (blackout, diversion, interrupts etc); energy drain; other spike builds; knockdown.

And that's all you need to know! I hope many of you can enjoy this build, and I hope my guide was clear enough for you ;)

Great guide, good build.
Oh were you behind the shatterstone spike? Nice.

  MorveAeris on 12/10/06 12:21

I'm not really the fan of Spirit Rift in PvP. It misses too often. Maybe switch it out for Renewing Surge instead?

was it u  corkycls on 12/10/06 14:25

i was usin my sin in ra and i remember being killed by a similar build. although i got ressed quickly and wrecked that RT very fast. did great dmg against a 70 AL

  Kikuta on 12/10/06 18:56

MorveAeris, Spirit Rift and Channeled Strike are the basics behind the spike for this build - although Spirit Rift can miss easily, more often than not you can find targets that don't run away from the rift, since not many people actually target ritualists. Just chose your targets wisely - in that sense, pick casters! They'll be too busy doing their casting to move out of the rift if they do notice it.

Corkycls, I've been running this build for a few days now, I'm sure I met you in battle somewhere by now :P

  camy009 on 12/10/06 23:37

i would make mesmer my 1nd and archane echo caretaker

  Lord Hideous on 12/11/06 17:08

Renewing Surge would be good too...Prob
Instead of Spirit Rift, witch can be evaded. You can use surge three times instead of one Rift (but you get no AoE dmg)

  Kikuta on 12/11/06 19:29

I've listened to these comments and tried the build by replacing Spirit Rift with renewing surge, and there are two things I noticed.

A) The spike becomes much less effective and often countered quickly by a defensive skill. Simply put, enemies will notice they're taking 63 damage every second, and will make an attempt to counter it. On the other hand, they have very little preparation to deal with a spike of 280 damage.

B) You get noticed. I tried using renewing surge, and boy did my targets pick up on it. More often than not they'd stop attacking their previous target and call for concentrated efforts from the whole team to take me down.

So yeah, I prefer Spirit Rift - but that's not to say you aren't allowed to swap it for renewing surge.

Also, camy009, arcane echoing caretakers charge is VERY effective - but I only slightly preferred the Rt/A build. If anyone wants to give the build a shot as a Rt/Me, swap out the two assassin skills for arcane echo and distortion, by putting points into illusion.

  Hertrix on 12/13/06 13:21

Ok first off, you seriously screwed this up because you have many things that just don't really help. Spirit rift and channeled strike take a 2 second cast time as well as spirit rift stays in the area for 3 seconds. That gives your enemy plenty of time to move away. Secondly you don't really need Mighty was Vorizun. Also Vital weapon just doesn't really help a whole lot for health management. Who is going to heal you if you are the only "close to" healer in your party? I'm not going to give out the true build that my friend made because we want it to be a secret. Just drop out Mighty was Vorizun and add in a different one. That's all i'm going to say about this.

  Kikuta on 12/13/06 19:18

Thanks for the criticism Hertrix. However, I need to ask, did you actually try my build? The Spirit Rift + Channeled Strike combo is very effective for me. Like I said many times in the guide, it relies simply on your choice of targets. If you pick a warrior chasing someone, it's a terrible choice. If you pick a caster sitting back and letting plenty of spells fly, it's a very good choice.

Mighty Was Vorizun not needed, eh? So I'm guessing you'd swap out the communing skills and points for restoration, bringing Resilient Was Xiko and Weapon of Warding, perhaps?

Well, your 'True build' comment actually really pissed me off, to be honest. I'd prefer you didn't use a term like that when you refuse to give out your variation for comparison.

wielders strike would combine well with vital weapon...just a thought

  GothicMuffin on 01/20/07 04:53

Looks alright I just got killed by someone with build like this wanted to try it out

  Dreagus on 01/28/07 22:18

I'd like to first start off by saying Nice Guide! Easy to understand and nicely put together ^^
Also, I'm deffinately gonna try this out, as soon as I cap Caretakers ><
