I think I'm going to become notorious for making PvP builds for Elites no-one else ever uses. First the elementalist 'Shatterstone', and now one for the ritualists - I present to you, a Rt/A 'Caretaker's Charge' spike build.
This build requires both Guild Wars: Factions and Guild Wars: Nightfall to run.
Template: A4NynCii8Uwg2JTHnLrBOPFA
And if you don't want to go through that, the image below has all the details you need for Skills, Attribute setup, and Armor/Runes. For this build, a weapon is not needed, so use whatever you feel like.
Usage: This build is designed for PvP - specifically the Random Arenas. I have yet to try it in Alliance Battles, but I would suggest you swap out Resurrection Signet for the ritualist channeling skill 'Renewing Surge'.
Here's a simple run-down of how you run the build in RA.
- Start the match by casting 'Mighty Was Vorizun'. This skill is the most effective 'item' spell I decided on for the build, providing you with a moderate defense boost and making up for the energy lost from not using a weapon.
- Secondly, apply Vital Weapon on yourself. This skill is there to cover the lost health from runes, and simply to let you live longer.
- When you engage an enemy, chose your target based on their movement habits. Cast Spirit Rift to begin the spike.
- Follow up with Channeled Strike - once you finish casting Channeled Strike, Spirit Rift will go off, dealing 280 damage to foes with 60 armor and no extra protection.
- Now cast your elite 'Caretaker's Charge' to deal another 63 damage, and refresh your health and energy.
- If your target is still standing (I found that most of my targets would be reduced to less than 50% health in a single spike, the majority below 33% health) then wait for Spirit Rift to recharge. The moment it is ready, fire it off again, and follow up with Caretaker's Charge (or Channeled Strike, depending on how much health your target has, and whether you need health/energy).
Caretaker's Charge should cover all your healing needs, since I've found very few people will target a ritualist not creating spirits. If in the event you are being attacked, apply Shadow Refuge when suitable for some decent health regeneration.
Your primary source of defense in this build is from your armor insignia's, Mighty Was Vorizun, and of course Dark Escape. If you come under attack from melee, activate Dark Escape and...
- If a monk or healer of sorts is present on your team, and not struggling already, stand your ground and begin attackin your melee assailant.
- If there is no monk or healer present in the team, simply run the hell away. Do not stray too far from your team-mates; stay in their agro zone's so they can provide assistance if you are really in trouble.
So that's it really. There can be variations to this build with the assassin skills by using a different secondary profession, but I am currently very pleased with how this set-up.
Things to note:
This build is highly effective against all foes with 60 armor; some rangers; spirit binding ritualists that cast their spirits in one place.
This build is inefficient against foes with high elemental/lightning resistance; most warriors; anything with protective spirit on it.
This build is countered by shut-down mesmers (blackout, diversion, interrupts etc); energy drain; other spike builds; knockdown.
And that's all you need to know! I hope many of you can enjoy this build, and I hope my guide was clear enough for you ;)
