The Water Mage
This is a Water Magic build that I have been using for some time now. It is great in PvP against pesky Warriors/Sins/Dervishes, but also works well in PvE (however, don’t use it in the Shiverpeaks). I have looked around the other guides and checked on wiki but couldn’t find anything like this. If there is already a guide like this, then sorry.
The Skills
Here is my skill bar.
Note that all damage is for Water Magic at 15.
1-Water Attunement – 58 seconds of getting some energy back
2-Water Trident – “Send out a water trident striking target foe for 70 cold damage if it hits. If it hits a moving foe that target it knocked down.”
3-Ice Spikes – “Target and adjacent foes are struck for 80 cold damage and move 66% slower for 6 seconds."
4-Shard Storm – “Send out an ice shard that strikes target foe for 65 cold damage if it hits and causing target foe to move 66% slower for 6 seconds.”
5-Maelstrom – “Create a Maelstrom at target foe’s location. For 10 seconds, foes adjacent to that area are struck for 25 cold damage each second. Maelstrom interrupts spell-casting when it hits. This spell causes exhaustion."
6-Frozen Burst – “All nearby foes are struck for 110 cold damage and move 66% slower for 11 seconds."
7-Aura of Restoration – 60 seconds of health return.
8-Ressurection Signet – Can be switched for something else in AB. I would suggest Armour of Mist.
The Attributes
Water Magic – 12 + 1(Glacier’s Eye) + Rune of your choosing. I would not recommend superior as you are a little bit too squishy.
Energy Storage – 12 + Rune of your choosing. Really, you don’t need more than minor.
The Gear
I choose to use this staff
However, if you prefer wand/focus, that doesn’t really matter..
The Strategy
*Before Battle, cast your attunements.
*When a Melée class attacks you, use Frozen Burst when they are close, retreat a bit, and cast Water trident as they come towards you to knock them down and give yourself time to step back a bit. Trident them and retreat as much as you can until Frozen Burst wears off, then use either Ice Spikes or Shard Storm and repeat the process until they are dead or get tired of crawling towards you.
*When attacking a caster, make sure they are stood still, then use one of your two ranged slowdowns on them (Ice Spikes and Shard Storm). Follow this with Maelstrom, so they take a while to get out of it as they are slowed. If you see them try and move out of the Maelstrom, use Water trident on them, then just spam skills 2, 3, and 4 until they die.
*If someone decides to do a runner, they will be no match for your slowdown and knockdown abilities, so play with them!
*You are very squishy, so try and stay away from fighting if possible.
Well that was my guide on how to be a Water Mage. I hope you have fun toying with Melée classes as I do. One thing I’d advise you to look out for is hex removal. Although you can still manage with an occasional removed hex, it will mean more chance of the fighter getting to you. Oh, and thanks for reading.
