Searing Flames PvE Nuker
Over the last few months, my favourite character, my nuker, has been sitting and collecting dust. Bored with my same old, yet comfortable, Renewal Nuker build, I set out to find something new. Nightfall has provided the new “spark” in need to get my Elementalist out of the moth balls.
I’ve searched through the guides here at AMP and did not come up with anything similar to this, so I thought I’d put this build up. It’s been something that I’ve been working on for a little while now and seems to work quite well. I do not claim to be the sole inventor of the build (I’m sure others are using it or something similar).
This build has worked well for me working through quests and missions in Nightfall, mostly with heroes and henchmen. I have also used it (just last night) in Sorrow’s Furnace, with a guild group of 3 human players and heroes. Worked great. The spiking damage and burning in this build are really valuable. Here’s the particulars:
Class: Elementalist/Monk
Attributes:
Fire Magic - 16 (12+1+3)
Energy Storage - 15 (12+3)
Unused Points - 6
Skills:
1. Fire Attunement: Enchantment Spell. For 36...55...62 seconds, you are attuned to fire. You gain 1 Energy plus 30% of the Energy cost of the skill each time you use Fire Magic. (10/2/60)
2. Mark of Rodgort: Hex Spell. Target foe and all adjacent foes are hexed with Mark of Rodgort. For 10...30...37 seconds, whenever each foe is struck for fire damage, that foe is set on fire for 1...3...4 seconds. (15/1/5)
3. Fireball: Send out a ball of fire that strikes target foe and all adjacent foes for 7...91...119 fire damage. (10/2/7)
4. Glowing Gaze: Target foe takes 5...41...53 fire damage. If that foe is on Fire, you gain 1...7...10 Energy.(5/1/5)
5. Searing Flames (Elite): Target foe and all nearby foes are struck with Searing Flames. Foes already on fire when this Skill is cast are struck for 7...91...119 fire damage. Foes not already on fire begin Burning for 1...6...7 seconds. (15/1/2)
6. Meteor Shower: Create a Meteor Shower at target foe's location. For 9 seconds, foes adjacent to that location are struck for 7...91...119 fire damage and knocked down every 3 seconds. This spell causes Exhaustion. (25/5/60)
7. Glyph of Sacrifice: Glyph. For 15 seconds, your next Spell may be cast instantly, but it takes an additional 30 seconds to recharge. (5/1/15)
8. OPEN. I choose Resurrect or some other resurrection skill.
Armour:
I use any max armour with the following Runes:
Elementalist Rune of Superior Fire Magic
Elementalist Rune of Superior Energy Storage (could be Major, I suppose)
Rune of Major Vigor (or Superior, if you can afford it)
Weapons/Equipment:
My weapon of choice is Rago’s Flame Staff. Puts my energy up to a base of 91 and helps to keep Fire Attunement on for a little longer.

How it works:
This is not a tanking build or a soloing build. You are basically a support caster, with some skills that cause serious damage.
When you’re about to aggro a group, make sure you have Fire Attunement up. Select your target. Cast Mark of Rodgort, Fireball, Glowing Gaze and Searing Flames. Rodgort will hex them, causing burning from any fire damage. Fireball will set them on fire. Glowing Gaze will cause damage and give you 10 energy back and finally Searing Flames will deal 119 damage and continue the burning.
Usually after I’ve hit my first target with this set, I select another and cast the same spells in the same order. Quite often I will switch to a target that is not on fire – may as well get them all burning I figure.
Glyph of Sacrifice and Meteor Shower are for those pesky monks or large mobs. Simply select the target of your choice, hit the Glyph, followed by the Meteor Shower. I should note that Meteor Shower will take an extra 30 seconds to recharge, but by then your other spells should have them quaking in their boots.
Searing Flames is your major damage dealer in this build, with a recharge time of 2 seconds, it really can pack a punch… and it’s area of effect! Energy management hasn’t been a problem so far. You just have to remember to 1. keep Fire Attunement up and 2. cast Glowing Gaze on ALL burning targets, that’s a free 12 points of energy (10 from Glowing and 2 from Fire Attunement).
If you wanted to, one of the skills could be switched out for Aura of Restoration. I did this in Sorrow’s Furnace, when I was unsure whether we’d have monks around while killing the bosses.
Variations:
Elementalist/Mesmer: you could quite easily take Mantra of Resolve, if you’re in an area with a bunch of interrupts. I do this quite often to ensure I get my casts off.
I hope this works for you. I’d love to hear some comments about how you’ve used something similar or if you have improvements!
GOOD LUCK!
