This is a build that I've been playing with in AvA and I quite like it. It's very risky and challenging to play because you're going to be sacrificing alot of health. But once you get the hang of it, you'll be able to survive easily and spike anything.

This build is designed to do medium AoE damage and massive spiking damage to one target. By the time you kill one person, all those around you should be at 50% health or less.

-Keep Illusion of Weakness up at all times. This is your lifesaver, without it you'll end up saccing yourself to death every time. Before every battle, cast it and have someone heal you.

-Before going into battle, cast Dark Aura then Cultist's Fervor.

-To get into touch range, you can either cast one of the touch skills or you could switch your weapons to melee.

-Once you're in touch range, use Shadow Strike first. This will do massive damage immediately. 92 damage alone, but with Dark Aura, you'll do 133 damage plus 41 AoE to everyone else.

-Then use one or both of the touch skills. You need your target at 50% or less health. Barring heals, you shouldn't have a problem with this.

-Once your target is at 50% or less health, use Taste of Pain. This won't do damage to the target(except Dark Aura), but you will get healed for 101 health.

-Unholy Feast can be used at any time. It's a healer and damager. You will get healed for 63 health. But the best part is the damage you will do. Dark Aura does 41 AoE and Unholy Feast does 61 damage AoE. This equals 102 damage on 4 targets.

For weapons, I use a Blood Staff with +5 armor and 20% enchantments. I am planning on using a melee weapon and offhand instead, as I can get more out of it.

You probably should use a +5 energy weapon with an enchanting mod on it. Prefix does not matter.

Offhands, I would use a 20/20 blood.

Armor doesn't really matter here, it's a matter of preference. Energy armor would be nice, but since your energy management is so powerful, it's not needed. Probably the best idea is to get a higher AL set, as you'll be in melee range alot.

Thanks for reading my guide and I hope you have fun with this. I realize that this build is not very powerful defensively, but it's a fun thing to do when you run up to someone and do massive damage almost instantly.

This is still a work in progress, and I hope to get some help from the community in making it better. So if you have any suggestions/hints, please let me know! :P

since i love playing a nercomancer and love challenges, i'll definately have to try it.

;) i do remember i think is was Vorsty or Rebel who killed Ashra in 1 vs. 1 with dark fury... didn't expect it at all =).

nice looking well crafted guide.

I'm not sure, but, depending on your health, would vampiric gaze fit in here? It would actually cost LESS then the touch skills, both of which recharge quickly... perhaps if you had one touch skill so you'd automatically get in range and then switch back and forth between touch, gaze, touch, etc. Plus that'd end up healing you AND taking down their health at about the same rate as the other touch skill would.

  lupennerkvein on 08/31/06 08:14

looks like a nice variation on the standard aura of the lich build, just out of interest how do you keep your health high because you must be losin 25% every time you use a touch skill. Also you theres a typo :P it should be drak aura not dark fury, but other than that relly nice complete guide, gj

  Wyat_hawke on 08/31/06 10:51

You are the kinda guy that makes my monk useless within a couple of minutes =P. You would need some massive heals every now and then, which doesn't consume you'r energy (nice energy management), but it will consume the monks energy instead, as they try to make your health up.

but I like the idea of a close up banger necro.
Its only that we already have elementalist builds who can do it aswell...

  Soqed Hozi on 08/31/06 13:58

reminds me of my build idea for if touch skills were spells:
here

same idea really, but of course u would use the stealing touches and the energy is lowered by cultists fervour.

anyways, good build :)

i used the dark fury build in a 1v1 :) though i used the standerd one without cultist fervor ^^

Hi,
thats nearly that what I have build in the last days :D

But mine is a Necro/Ranger using Melandrus Resilence and Troll Unguent to survive.

Cultists Favor and Dark Fury must in there, cause its a great way to do a hell of dmg. I also used Touch of Agony and Willows Bite and Unholy Feast.

But I have a res signet, cause i'm playing mostly TeamArena.

But this one do a little more dmg I think, but have a healthproblem.
And you spend a lot of attributepoints for one healing skill and then you have to wait until he's down below 50% health.

Nevertheless, Great Build but i tried to heal myself as a Necro/Mesmer
with Blood Renewal and kicked out therefor Shadow Strike and Taste of Pain for the res signet.

No offense my friend, its an amazing build, but dont you think the Aura of the Lich build is a bit better? this can get pretty crazy as your saccing quite a bit of health away before you see any results, while the AoTL you can do quite a bit of AoE and Spike dmg to one char and many adjacent, just my thought, but still kudos to you on making something new :D Keep up the good work

  moloch on 08/31/06 22:45

Only prob i see is Dark Fury is a mistype you mean dark Aura :)
was looking for unlocks lol and noticed Dark Fury: Sac 17: max hp for 5 secs when ever party member hits with atk that party member gains 1 hit of adren :) but nice job otherwise well done.

I used a build similar to this during the pvp chars go to aspenwood event and i have to say that Fervor > Lich imo because if a mesmer strips the enchantment, it just means u dont deal quite as much dmg with feast but u can just use Touch of Agony to activate dark aura whereas if aura of the lich is stripped, you die because the lich builds require it to be on at all times.

  lupennerkvein on 09/01/06 08:03

2 questions one to cswella and one to XMegidoX
1.to cswella does touch of agony gain benefits of cultists fervour as it is a spell? i now realise why you deal damage but cant see how you survive :P
2.Megido why does Lich build mean it has to be on to survive, if lich is stripped your just playing this build with no fervour

  cswella on 09/01/06 15:16

@Lupennerkvein: No, Cultist's does not activate on Touch of Agony/Wallows bite as they are skills, not spells.

@Questions about survival: If you get targeted while using this, you will most likely die. This build is all about stealth and suprise. Let everyone else run in, then go into a group and set it off. Kind of a "WTH just happened?" type situation.

  lupennerkvein on 09/01/06 18:52

ah kk well i understand two things now thanks alot for clearing it up, and now that i look at it again as cultists doesnt activate you are much more sustainable i also really like the SS, cultists idea, nice guide, a like the variation on the standard AotL, but on the downside im not sure if its worth using an elite skill just to deal that little bit of extra damage when using SS and taste of pain, i personally think it would be better if you maybe swapped taste of pain out for blood renewal as that is much more sustainable, at high blood magic, and with IoW ud be pretty safe me thinks, and maybe you should go SS, touch of agony, wallows bite, unholy feast then BR would be ending healing you to full probably and killing your target from that combo.

The Mad King George on 09/02/06 02:48

you could use comtemplation of purity and blood renewal

  Botchu on 09/02/06 12:27

Nice I bought Cultist's Fervor a long time ago thinking it would be good but to my dismay I couldnt use it....
Now I guess here's my chance :D

  Gunassay on 09/03/06 11:39

I like this build, its sort of like my build but a way different variation, goodjob though

  cswella on 09/03/06 21:19

No, taste of pain does not harm the enemy at all. It just gives you health.

Charlotte The Harlot on 09/04/06 02:57

hmm with this build i dont end up getting too many people and its very hard sometimes to not have them move outa the dark aura ara when using a skill like shadow strike with the longer cast if i can get into a goup stealthfully it works nice but its a bit vulnerable and can have some problems damaging what you want it to.

Tor Den Mektige on 09/04/06 15:42

oO this looks insane! I want to try it :P lol! ill have to make a Nec again :/ or at least unlock a lot of nec skills. Ohh well :D cheers!
