Firstly this is my first properly written and submitted build, it is similar to a few already but with a few variations.

I tried a Mantra of Resolve build written by someone else for a 55 variation and I didn’t like it, great against Ataxes but not big groups. I’ve since tried a 600hp build and now found a great combination that works oh so well :)

They say that pictures say a thousand words so:

Lowest armor you can manage to get, starter armor would be best but I’ve bought Pants & Shoes from Ascalon. You want these for the energy regen.

Minor Prot and Major Smite runes; Sups are expensive and tbh the -35 health doesn’t matter.

The Kepkhet’s can be bought quite cheaply now but any max staff with +20% enchants would work.

Skills are:

1) Mantra of Resolve
2) Protective Spirit
3) Spirit Bond
4) Channeling
5) Shield of Judgment {Elite}
6) Arcane Echo
7) Balthazar’s Spirit
8) Essence Bond

To use:

Cast 7 & 8 as soon as you leave town, these will give you +2 energy every time you’re hit.

Run up to your target and as they come into range cast 1, 2, 3 & 4

1 stops you from being interrupted, ever, at the cost of 6 energy per interrupt. 4 gives you 1 energy per adjacent foe every time you cast.
If you’re in a mob of 15 trolls outside Droks that’s a constant +2 then +15 per cast so your SoJ pays for itself!

6, 5 then 6 again. You can cast these in safety due to Mantra of Resolve; make sure you’ve topped up Prot Spirit and Bond before other wise you could end up in trouble. Cast Echo the moment SoJ starts to flash, this is the moment is runs out:

Trolls should all be dead ^_^

For UW swap out Channeling for Leech Sig or similar interrupt, if you’re 2 manning take SB instead of SoJ and set Div attribs instead of Smite.

And finally the reason it's a 401 build...your health will sit dead on 401 and never move unless something doesn't do the required 60 damage.

Easy, Cheap, try it out!

Very good build, very good guide, well layed out, good use of pictures. 10/10 :)

  Raistlin Majere on 08/23/06 19:34

nice build...ive been using this kind for a while but havent tried out mantra of resolve

good job!

  Kishandreth on 08/23/06 19:37

im guessing that spirit bond calculates out the damage dealt before protective spirit.... wondering if they're gunna change that...

  Keo on 08/23/06 20:00

Firstly thanks for the positive feedback!

Yeah this is the bit I don't get either...by deffinition of the skills this build shouldn't work! If you try the build I think you only get hit for 44 (10% of the starting 445) which is below the 60 needed for Spirit Bond. I've actually added my Smite Head Tat + Sup Smite, which I use to 55, and the build still works at around 350HP...and kills Attaxes faster!

I'd take a guess that Spirit Bond looks at the damage dealt rather than the damage recieved.

^_^

  Txen_Viong on 08/24/06 00:18

No offense, but all these 600s just seem to be varients of each other...

Kill joy: http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Mo/any_Spirit_Bonder

It even says to use those mesmer skills you put on...

But nicely done guide anyway

  Silver Genesis on 08/24/06 02:05

nice build, all tho this is the 100000 spirit bonder build I saw. I play spirit bonder too, but I don't play with that much energy :O

Only essence bond is enough..

still tho, this is one of the best spirit bonders build.

  brunkke on 08/24/06 03:33

Why dont use sup runes? You could do more damage with them. It does not mather if you loose 40 hp or 20 hp, you will still get enought hp of Spirit bond. If there is something that i dont understand why it should be 401 hp, please tell me!

  PiousDevil on 08/24/06 05:05

one question, what is the base for a 401 monk? how does it work different than a 55hp one? btw, nice build

The True Myth on 08/24/06 06:15

I would take Channeling out and Retribution in, because u dont need that much energy, and Retribution will add up another 15 dmg to SoJ.
U could even replace Arcane Echo with Retribution.

  Keo on 08/24/06 06:40

TBH I'm not surprised there are other builds like this already, it's just common sense!

Brunkke:
I called it a 401 bacause when you play the health sits dead on 401HP.

The reason I didn't go for Sup Runes was to keep the cost down; with this build a new player can buy these skills and use their starter armor to create a mimimal cost farming monk. I think the overall cost to me was about 300g which is about 20k cheaper than a 55!

PiousDevil:
The 55 works by reducing the damage you take to 5 each hit, because this is so low Healing Breeze can keep you at full health under a barrage of multiple enemies.
55's are expensive to build and can be tricky to run when you start out.
A Spirit Bonder works by capping the damage taken at 10% of max health then healing with Spirit Bond for 80+ so....Take 60dmg heal 80 per hit.

Myth:
Channeling is really just a space filler since I put Leech Sig in there when I'm in UW, however I will swap echo for Retribution and try that. The only problem is that due to energy out and not having Bonetties going one on one with that last Aatax can be a close call!

  Solicity on 08/24/06 06:44

Pious devil, this is how the two builds work.

the 55 works like this.

you have 55 health. 10% max damage from protective spirit means that everything hits you for 5 damage. with +10 energy regen, that 5 damage is regenerated.

the spirit bonder works like this.

with the least armor in the game, you are hoping that everything hits you for more than 60 damage (this ignores protective spirit, so you cna have 445 hp and take 44 damage, and spirit bond would still heal you). this means that spirit bond heals you for (84 in this case), every time you are struck, so it can keep up with any ammount of agro, provided they all hit for more than the required 60 damage.

oh coarse, you could be a clever necromancer and combine the two ideas and chuck in spitefull spirit. this way, you heal for every 5 damage you take due to regeneration, and the occasional hit from the big monsters in your group of agro completely fill your hp.

very nice guide! i use this for my spirit bonding now ^^

  Solicity on 08/24/06 06:47

ah sorry keo, this is what happens when i come back to a page after playing guildwars for an hour ^^

  PiousDevil on 08/24/06 07:17

thanks keo and solicity, now im thinking, i can use my necro mancer too cant i? as you dont have any att above 12, so thats amazing, w00t w00t, cant wait to try it out. :D

  Keo on 08/24/06 07:49

I've been thinking about doing this with SS as that would be awsome but the problem there comes with the interupts. If you can get the SS off tho, maybe cast it as you encounter the mob, it should work nicely!

^_^

  Garrion Marsh on 08/24/06 08:36

me and a friend have been dualing UW with a necro and mesmer lately, him being the 55 and me using sv and av to keep him alive and whatnot, and bip for energy needs, so far its actually a very effective build no interupts and its hard to be overwhelmed by anything due to the lack of zealots fire, flurry and "fear me" that and death magic at 6 can kill a nightmare with fetid ground instantly ;)

  Keo on 08/24/06 09:19

Garrion:

Just out of interest how do you deal with large mobs of Smites? When I tried a Mo/Me build I took too much damage since I had no Bonettis to hide behind.

shhhhh, dont let a-net hear you or they will spaz and have another "nerf attack"

  PhoenixConcave on 08/24/06 18:03

I find i use a similar build to this but the avicara outside the caves dont always deal enough damage to trigger spirit bond. Do uyou evan kill the avicara?

  Keo on 08/24/06 18:26

Nope, I run right past them. I always take them out with my 55 but this can't handle them.

It's the same story fot the Grasps in UW, you have to take the quest to start and deal with them at the same time as the Aataxs'.

Not pretty & not 100%....I'm still working on a way to solo UW efficiently with this build since it can deal with as many smites as you can throw at it!

I have never had any real problem with the Aivacara, and I prefer farming them with this over the trolls, they have far superior drops. If you are having trouble, use Elemental Resistance to lower your armor enough so the dual shots hit for over 60 damage. You'll still take damage from Ignite Arrows, but this is easily compensated for by the healing from other attacks. The only Aivacara that pose a problem are the Guiles and their enchant stripping.
As for the Graspings, they are laughably easy with Elemental Resistance. I still tank them at the same time as the attaxes when possible, simply because it is faster. When duoing with a SS or another monk, it is very nice to be able to trigger the quest gather & tank the entire first chamber.
With a little variation, this can tank everything in the UW but the Spirits with IW.

wouldnt that mean that 55s can use spirit bond and NEVER die???

  PhoenixConcave on 08/25/06 02:50

Oh thats what it was. I take elemental resistance but something kept on stripping my enchants-what do u substitute elemental resistance for ?

  The Sister on 08/25/06 06:37

Elemental resistance is a stance not an enchant so that won't be stipped. Also avicara fierces (the rangers) are doing elemental damage, but the braves are doing physical.

  Keo on 08/25/06 09:07

QUOTE

Not really tried that...I will now tho!

A friend suggested Ele Resistance but it takes up a skill slot which means dropping an energy maintainable, Echo/Retribution or Leech Sig...I'll see how it goes without EB :)

^_^

  kcinshin on 08/25/06 12:14

Why'd you dye your bags?

Great guide  fhotyria on 08/25/06 13:41

Just tried this out and it's excellent. Easy to follow and cheap as hell.

  Keo on 08/25/06 14:04

With Ele Resistance the Avicara are no problem, same with the Grasps in UW; the alternative to Ele Resistance is to avoid the Avicara and take the Grasps with the Aataxs.

Kcinshin:

I dyed my bags out of pure curiosity and since those colours arn't worth much I didn't feel bad about it! ^_^

I've taken suggestions and this is now my bar for taking the Trolls:

Still loads of energy and all you need t odo for UW is swap Echo for Leech Sig.

^_^

Snail From Hell on 08/25/06 15:23

what if multiple nightmares spawn? You won't be able to inturrupt them all.

  Satans_Blade on 08/25/06 17:11

Wait...dosen't Spirit bonder need 60 damage to work and Prot spirit stops you from taking over 40 unless you have 600 health so why do you have prot spirit...if I'm wrong about Spirit Bonder then I appoligize

  foozdood on 08/25/06 18:46

as many people have already said spirit bond calculates the damage BEFORE it is reduced by prot spirit though i guess most ppl dont know this since it is usually a 600 hp monk

  PhoenixConcave on 08/26/06 02:15

So what did you sub er for?

  PhoenixConcave on 08/26/06 18:11

Tetsed this last night swap ER with channeling

QUOTE

VERY clever. im gunna go farm me some grawl ^^

  Keo on 08/28/06 19:25

Sorry for not replying...I've not checked this for a few days:

Snail From Hell:

That's a problem you face with any solo build in there; if you're careful you can agro 1 Nightmare at a time since the first 2 are linked to the patroling Aataxs in the first chamber. Sometimes tho you'll get unlucky, I've seen 4 spawn in there. If that happens you should be running to hide behind a ghost where you can safely wand the Nightmares.

Satans_Blade:

If an Aatax hit you without PS it would do about 600+ damage and kill you instantly, PS puts a cap on the damage actually sustained. SB calculates from the damage taken before the effect of PS.

PhoenixConcave:

I also replaced channeling with ER and it worked a charm! If you go 2 man you can keep channeling and drop Echo.

^_^

Snail From Hell on 08/28/06 22:31

I tried soloing the grasps and the aataxes at the same time, and mantra kept going away....

  Keo on 09/05/06 12:45

Mantra kept ending?

It will end if you run out of nrg or after 70ish secs. Just renew it, it's an instant cast.

^_^

Hmm  Bennal on 09/23/06 14:41

I setup this build with my monk, and it all works fine with the trolls, but i made the adjustments suggested for killing avicara fierce, and although against fierce Elemental Resistance works great, the inability to use Mantra of Resolve means taking on a group of avicara with both braves and fierce is mighty difficult. It means i get interupted while attempting to cast SoJ/Echo, and waiting for retribution to kill them all is a pain. Anyone got a solution?

Update......  Keo on 10/09/06 20:59

I actually dropped Echo from the bar a while ago now but never got around to updating this thread....

Slots 5-8 now go:

5) Elemental Resistance
6) Retribution
7) Essence Bond
8) Balthazars Spirit

This should kill a Troll mob in 1 SoJ if Smite is at 16 (with tat & sup rune), if Smite is lower it'll take 2 SoJ's ;)

For Avicara:

Cast SoJ just before you agro or at least before the Warriors get to you since it's those who interupt. Don't worry about SoJ not killing them, just wait them out and let Retribution finish them off.

For UW 2 man:

Swap SoJ for Spell Breaker & Retribution for Blessed Aura; change attribs from Smite to Div Fav (Gives me 15 secs SB with no sup rune).

^_^

Very well written guide, just getting back into the game and a 600hp monk sounds great. It is a monk/mesmer correct?
