PvE N/* Icy Veins Deathnuker
This is a PvE build for Necromancer primary characters. It is different from the more traditional Spiteful Spirit, Battery, and Minion Master Necromancer builds. This is a nuking build, meaning it is designed to deal large damage to an area, but is not suitable for PvP play in this form.
This build is great for people who have been playing a Minion Master for a while but want to try something new, as the equipment is effectively the same. It is also good for areas with a relative lack of bodies or where it is difficult to maintain minion armies because it needs relatively few corpses.
Attributes and Equipment
Armor doesn't matter much, though Bloodstained Boots are recommended. You will need a scar pattern that boosts Death Magic on your head, a superior Death Magic rune, and a minor Soul Reaping rune, however.
Skills
Rising Bile
For 30 seconds, this Hex does nothing. When Rising Bile ends, that foe and all foes in the area take 4 damage for each second Rising Bile was in effect.
Icy Veins
Target foe is struck for 79 cold damage. For 32 seconds, if target foe dies all nearby foes are struck for 98 cold damage.
Deathly Swarm
Deathly Swarm flies out slowly and strikes for 84 cold damage on up to three targets in the area.
Taste of Pain
If target foe is below 50% Health, you gain 158 Health.
Putrid Explosion
The corpse nearest your target explodes, sending out a shockwave that deals 126 damage to all nearby foes.
Rotting Flesh
Target fleshy creature becomes Diseased for 26 seconds and slowly loses Health.
Malign Intervention
For 5...17 seconds, target foe receives 20% less benefit from healing. If target foe dies while hexed with Malign Intervention, a level 18 masterless bone horror is summoned and that foe's corpse is exploited.
Ressurection Signet
Resurrect target party member. That party member is returned to life with 100% Health and 25% Energy. This signet recharges when you gain a morale boost.
Prophecies-only characters will likely not be able to use this build, as they will not have access to the key skills Rising Bile and Icy Veins. Factions-only characters will need to replace Malign Intervention with another skill. For those people, I would suggest Bitter Chill for the replacement; these characters will have a somewhat harder time with enemy groups with several healers.
Using the Build
This build is fairly straightforward. Put Rising Bile, Rotting Flesh, and Icy Veins on an enemy, kill it using Deathly Swarm, cast Putrid Explosion, and deal large amounts of Shadow damage to all the surrounding foes, then cast Putrid Explosion as more die. Shortly after battle begins, you can make an entire group have 4 degen from Disease with over 300 damage that they can do nothing about.
Malign Intervention is useful against monk bosses, since it reduces their healing capability by 20%. Even against non-bosses, it is useful since the Horror that spawns will usually go after one of your opponents. If it attacks one of your allies, cast Icy Veins on it, run over next to a group of enemies, and kill the thing to deal more damage to the foes.
Taste of Pain is a fairly standard selfheal, though it is slightly weak and requires that the target be weak to use. It can be replaced with Soul Feast, though this will take away corpses from your Putrid Explosions.
A Few Shots in Action
About 12 seconds into this fight, the first Troll dropped, dealing 100 damage to all the others.
A Putrid Explosion later, and they've all taken 126 more damage...
And another Explosion and all but the boss are down, 20 seconds into the fight.
Feedback on the build, thoughts on improvements, questions or comments, are greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading the Icy Veins Deathnuker build.
