Ok. Its been forever since my last guide and I'm STILL getting whispers about each and every one of them. By request I'm writing this guide for everyone that has taken an interest in 55, 605, and 300 monk farming. I hope this guide is used as a general reference for all monk farming. That and my credit needs a boost. >,<
Setting up your monk.
55 monks.
Here I will outline the cheapest and most effective way to get your 55 monk started. Lets start with...
Armor
The best armor for the job is Lions Arch Tatoos. They cost a grand total of 32 parchment and 750g. Not much of an impact on your wallet. Be sure to get the zealous head tatoo.
The runes. Ok this is where you want to be careful. You need 5 runes total to achieve 105 life.(55 with cesta) This means that you will need more than one of a particular kind. I suggest getting the extra smiting rune because if you die then you can remove the armor piece with the rune to put yourself at 35 life and continue farming. Heres how it breaks down.
Head tatoo - Smiting Rune
Chest tatoo - Smiting Rune
Torso tatoo - Protection Rune
Wrist Tatoo - Healing Rune
Shoe Tatoo - Divine Favor Rune
Notice I put the spare Smiting on the chest piece. This is because the chest piece doesnt have a +1 energy regen. This means if you die you can safely remove it without affecting your performance, as a matter of fact you increase your performance because you have less life.
The Weapon.
The cheapest and probably the best weapon for the build is the green Totem Axe. Now this is a great weapon for very little cash but IS NOT the best overall weapon for 55 monks. That title is reserved for the 20% Enchant Fiery Flame Spitter. The totem axe can be picked up at any major town for around 5k - 7k. Not hard to get one at all.
The Cesta.
People may tell you that they are discontinued but this is simply not true. Do the Great Northern Wall mission then go to ascalon and talk to Symon the Scribe and take the Cities of Ascalon quest. It doesnt show you the -50 but its there. Upon completing the quest you get your own cesta.
600 and 300 hp monks.
You may ask, "Whats the difference." First you must understand that these particular builds take advantage of a Factions skill called spirit bond which gives you around 80 life when you take more than 60 dmg. With this builds low armor level this is no problem but you need to couple Spirit bond with protective spirit to keep the life gain to a positive. Spirit bond is triggered before Protective spirit so depending on you life total you are healed for a certain amount. Here is the formula
600 hp
120 dmg. Triggers Spirit Bond + 80 life. Dmg reduced by Protective Spirit = 60 dmg. = 20 life gained each hit.
300 hp
120 dmg. Triggers Spirit Bond + 80 life. Dmg reduced by Protective Spirit = 30 dmg. = 50 life gained each hit.
I hope that makes sense.
The Armor.
The absolute best armor for these genre of builds is the starter armor you get at the beginning of the game. I'm not kidding. The 5 AL is the lowest you can get, however you only need the pants and the sandels as they have the energy regen. The chest and wrists can be discared to lower the AL of your character and the head tat is worthless because you dont have a +1 to smiting. For your head tat get Ascalon Zealous head tatoo. The 15 AL one not the 30. Put a Superior Smiting ruin into it if your going to be 600 hp and your all set. If your aiming for 300 hp then put a Superior Rune of Protection in your pants, putting your life at a nice 330 hp. To reiterate.
600 hp
Head - Zealous Tatoo with a Superior Smiting Rune
Chest - Nothing
Wrist - Nothing
Torso - Starter Pants
Feet - Starter Sandals
300 hp
Head - Zealous Tatoo with a Superior Smiting Rune
Chest - Nothing
Wrist - Nothing
Torso - Starter Pants with a Superior Protection Rune
Feet - Starter Sandals
The Weapon.
I find that a Kephets Refuge works best. It has faster recharge and casting on prot skills which keep you alive and a nice 20% enchant mod. Easily gotten in town for 5k.
Builds and how to use them.
55 monk builds.
These builds are builds I use personally and developed without the help of other guides. If any of these guides resemble another guide its purely coincidence.
The 1 Soj Troll Killer.
This build uses one SoJ coupled with Zealots fire to kill all the trolls in troll cave outside Droks.
Monk/Ranger
Skills.
1. Sheild of Judgement
2. Protective Spirit
3. Healing Breeze
4. Storm Chaser
5. Zealots Fire
6. Blessed Aura
7. Balthazar's Spirit
8. Mending
Tatic - Trolls
Leave Droks. Cast 6,7,8 waiting inbetween for energy. Go to the cave. If avicara are in your way then use Prot Spirit, Healing Breeze and Storm Chaser and go through, usually you get a ton of energy while doing this. Upon arriving at the cave cast Zealots Fire and before aggro cast Prot Spirit and Healing Breeze. When they surround you cast 2,3,1 back to back. This will cause the trolls to run and prevent your SoJ from being interrupted. Now when they come back cast Healing Breeze count to 3 mississippi and cast Prot Spirit then count to 3 mississippi and cast HB again. Repeat that process untill they die. Should be down by the end of you SoJ.
This build also works for Elona Minotaurs and pretty much anywhere you can farm with a 55 monk.
You can't interrupt me! 55 Monk.
This guide is just as it sounds. Cant kill as quick as the first one but its alot safer. Can also take the ice imps outside Marhan's Grotto.
Monk/Mesmer
Skills.
1. Sheild of Judgement
2. Protective Spirit
3. Healing Breeze
4. Mantra of Resolve
5. Blessed Signet
6. Essence Bond
7. Balthazar's Spirit
8. Mending
Tatic - General
Cast 6,7,8 outside town using Blessed Signet to regain lost energy. Right before aggro cast Prot Spirit and Healing Breeze and as soon as energy allows put on Mantra of Resolve and cast SoJ. Then cast HB and Prot Spirit as needed. With 12 mobs attacking and +2 energy per hit the occasional -7 is no big deal.
Great for trolls, avicara, minos, ice imps, and some other places I bet im forgetting.
Standard UW 55 Monk.
This guide also needs a max dmg wand.(one that you meet the req for) To take down the Dying Nightmares.
Monk/Warrior
Skills.
1. Spellbreaker
2. Protective Spirit
3. Healing Breeze
4. Bonnettie's Defense
5. Blessed Signet
6. Blessed Aura
7. Balthazar's Spirit
8. Mending
Tatics - UW
This build is used in tandom with either a ss/sv necro or a famine ranger. Either way the tatic is the same. Enter UW and cast 6, 7, 8 and then regain energy with Blessed Signet. Now before each group of attaxe/smite/graspings you need to cast Spellbreaker, Protective Spirit and Healing Breeze. When you aggro look at your radar to see any Dying Nightmares pop up. RELAX. Spellbreaker will prevent them from owning you and all you need to do is switch to your wand/cesta weapon setup and just attack the bugger until he drops. Then just spam Prot Spirit and Healing Breeze using bonnetties as needed. The Necro or Ranger should take care of the rest.
FYI rangers are now the best option for dual UW.
600 and 300 hp builds.
600 hp Troll Smiting.
This build takes advantage of the dmg after Prot Spirit by flinging it back at them via Retribution. That plus SoJ deals about 68 dmg per hit.
Monk/Ranger
Skills.
1. Spirit Bond
2. Protective Spirit
3. Sheild of Judgement
4. Storm Chaser
5. Blessed Signet
6. Retribution
7. Balthazar's Spirit
8. Blessed Aura
Tatics - Trolls
Leave town and cast 6, 7, 8 and regain energy with Blessed Signet. Run to the cave using prot spirit, Spirit Bond, and storm chaser to get past the avaicara if need be. In the cave cast Protective Spirit then Spirit Bond. While tanking cast Soj and spam 1 and 2. Collect loot.
300 hp safe trolls.
This build is uses mantra of resolve to and high life gain from Spirit Bond to safely kill trolls.
Monk/Mesmer
Skills.
1. Spirit Bond
2. Protective Spirit
3. Sheild of Judgement
4. Mantra of Resolve
5. Blessed Signet
6. Essence Bond
7. Balthazar's Spirit
8. Blessed Aura
Tatics - Trolls
Outside town cast 6, 7, 8 and regain lost energy with Blessed Signet. Run to the cave avoiding avaicara. In the cave right before aggro cast Protective Spirit then Spirit Bond and aggro. Wait for energy cast Spirit bond then slap on Mantra of Resolve and cast SoJ. Maintain Spirit Bond and Protective Spirit as well as Mantra of Resolve.
