Hi guys! This is my first build. I have seen a lot of posts asking questions about pets and how to evolve them so I decided this will be a good time to make my first build because I love pets so much and my Black Moa go everywhere with my Ranger and my White Tiger goes a lot of places with my Monk!

Let’s start out with the basics. Here are all the pets in the game:

Prophecies Pets

Black Bears
Lynxes
Melandru's Stalkers
Moa Birds
Striders
Warthogs
Wolves
Piercing damage is dealt by
Black Widows
Dune Lizards

Factions Pets

Tigers
Cranes
Reef Lurkers
Black Moas
Phoenix

Pets can be evolved into different “styles” for different purposes. Here are the following evolutions of pets:

Hearty: -15% damage, +60 health
Playful: -5% damage, +30 health
Elder: -0 damage, +0 health
Aggressive: +5% damage, -30 health
Dire: +15% damage, -60 health

Playful and Aggressive are evolutions that are acquired by pets at the level of 11-15. Then if you continue to evolve your pet the same way you were to get a Playful or Aggressive pet they evolve at level 20 to the “perfected” version of the style.

Many people think that an Elder pet has a +3 damage bonus. I tried to prove but I found that the rumor was false.

The health and armor of all pets are initially the same and is decided on the level of the pet.

The health of a normal pet can be found out with the equation:
the pet’s level × 20 + 80

The armor of a normal pet can be found out with the equation:
the pet’s level × 3 + 20

This can obviously change if your pet is Hearty or Dire etc.

NOTE: this Armor and Health information was found from guildwiki

These are some things that DO NOT contribute to evolving your pet to a specific type:

Amount of healing on the pet
Levels of monsters fought
Number of times the pet died
Number of foes killed by the pet

These are some things that contribute to evolving your pet to a defensive type (playful/hearty):

You do more damage than you pet
The amount of damage taken by the pet
The amount of damage taken by the pet without the pet dieing

These are some things that contribute to evolving your pet into an offensive type (Aggressive/Dire):

Your pet does more damage than you

The way I found easiest to evolve a pet into a Playful/Hearty pet is to do this:

Bring a normal damage build that you use and add in Charm Animal, Comfort Animal, and Call of Protection.

Keep Call of Protection up all the time and use comfort animal to heal (you don’t want you pet to die).

The three Beast Master skills are listed above are the only ones you should need but if your pet is taking a lot of damage and dieing a lot because your in a hard area then bring some more defensive pet skills like Symbiotic Bond in order to reduce more damage.

The way I found easiest to evolve a pet into an Aggressive/Dire pet is to do this:

The way I do it is use Cswella's awesome Enraged build/guide which can be found here.

All you have to do is follow this build and your pet will be dealing loads of damage even when its at a low level!

NOTE: The build I gave a link to just above is NOT one of my builds, it is Cswella’s so any credit towards the Enraged Beastmaster build/guide please give to Cswella.

In order to evolve a pet into an Elder pet all you have to do is use one of the strategies above until it becomes the first stage (Playful or Aggressive) then switch and use the other strategy to get the other type of evolved pet. After that you will have yourself an Elder Pet.

And that’s my guide! I hope that you can get the proper information that you need from it!

nice guide man but i still have a question: i saw many ppl with a hearty stalker and i wonder how do you get one. is it by taking a melandru stalker and "evolving" it into a hearty or is it just another specie?

wooot first entry lol

  Dags on 07/23/06 20:24

Your correct, it is just an evolved Melandrus Stalker.

How do you name ur pet?:P

  BlazeNL on 07/24/06 06:47

A little addition to the guide: to reset your pet's name and by that checking in which stage it is, type /namepet, without a name after it.
Nice guide btw.

  tuoppi74 on 07/25/06 02:43

I do believe the correct command is:

/namepet

Ooops  puffydog on 07/25/06 07:13

It's nice and all but the Aggerssive/Dire tutorial is a bucket full of lies. I tried it TWICE so far and i get the Playfull/Hearty pet with above tutorial.

I don't know if that works, because I use /petname (name), and it works perfectly.
/petname is a correct command.

Attributes and Skills

Attribute Rank
Beast Mastery 12 + 1 + 3
Expertise 9 + 1
Protection Prayers 9

1.Protective Spirit

2.Spirit Bond

3.Ferocious Strike

4.Feral Lunge

5.Scavenger Strike

6.Call of Haste

7.Balthazar's Spirit

8.Charm Animal

Equipment

Use a Totem Axe or any single handed weapon Of Enchanting and a Protective Icon, possibly with +12 Energy and some Health, but no Armor bonus.
Use only a Tamer's Mask of Superior Beast Mastery rune and some Gloves or Boots of Minor Expertise. Any Armor is fine, even AL 70.
You will now have only 2 Pips Energy regeneration, but that's enough.

Getting to Level 15

* Enter the Elona Reach mission
* Cast Balthazar's Spirit on yourself
* Talk to the priest to get the Crystal Shard and drop it immediately
* Select yourself by pressing 'f'
* Do NOT aggro the two Minotaurs, else they may sneak up from behind and attack your pet
* Run down the slope to the 'pitch', right in the group of minos. DO NOT GO BACK, else the pet will be attacked, not you. If the pet gets attacked nontheless, immediately zone out
* Shortly before you get the first hit, activate Protective Spirit and Spirit Bond. From now on, do not move anymore. Again, your pet may get attacked if you do so
* Use all your pet attacks, as often as possible
* Keep up both enchantments and call of haste
* When there are only a few minos left, you start running low on energy. Do not use anymore Pet-Attacks except Ferocious Strike, else you do not have enough Energy to keep up your enchantments.
* When all Minos are dead, zone out and restart the mission
* Rinse and repeat

At Level 11, the pet should do its first evolution, to Agressive.
At Level 15, the second evolution should take place, to Dire.

Variants
1.Protective Spirit

2.Spirit Bond

3.Ferocious Strike

4.Optional

5.Optional

6.Call of Haste

7.Balthazar's Spirit

8.Charm Animal

Any Pet Attacks can be inserted in these Slots, but these mentioned above do probably the most damage.

Level 15 and On

Attribute Rank
Beast Mastery 8 + 1 + 3
Smiting 12
Protection Prayers 10

1.Protective Spirit

2.Spirit Bond

3.Retribution

4.Edge of Extinction

5.Optional

6.Optional

7.Balthazar's Spirit

8.Charm Animal

Once your pet has evolved a second time it doesn't matter how you continue to level it up to retain its evolution. So to minimize the amount of time you spend killing minotuars to level your pet further you can use this build. With this build, retribution deals damage to not one but all of the Minotuars attacking you, which makes for a quicker battle. You will have no energy regen, but you will be constantly fed energy by being hit anyway. Just proceed as normal and once you have the aggro of all the Minotuars use your spirit of Extinction. However, make sure to throw Protective Spirit and Spirit Bond on you before you put down Edge of Extinction because Spirit Bond doesn't last long and Edge of Extinction takes a few seconds to use. Eventually the Minotuars will start falling and cause a chain reaction of deaths due to Edge of Extinction giving you a lot of experience all at once.

To minimize the amount of time even further, go killing Mountain Trolls outside Droknar's Forge. Run to the cave, and then aggro all the trolls. It does not matter if your pet gets slain by Trolls or Avicaris outside the cave.
You need to cast Edge of Extinction before you aggro any Trolls because these beasts have Disrupting Chop.

To have Retribution (at Smiting Prayers 12) fully working, you need at least 510 Health Points, so consider Symbiosis.

To get easier and faster to the cave, try Run as One.

** My self used the LvL15 method for my newly cap phoenix starting @ lvl5. Way faster. But, that's just me.
