There is a lot of debate on using Henchmen. Are they good to use? I use henchmen for about 90% of the time in Guild Wars and have none to little problems with them.
The first thing to know is which henchmen should I take?
Depending on where you are going and what town you are in there are several options.
1: You
2: Heal Monk
3: Redemption / Protection Monk
4: Warrior
5: Warrior
6: Interrupt Ranger
7: *Ritualist “Factions”
8: *Elementalist / Assassin ”Factions”
*Can Change these around to which suits you.
Beyond having the proper Henchmen build is your skills. If you have monk skills bring along a Resurrect spell. If you are not a Monk or a Secondary Monk a Resurrect Signet is a must.
There are many advantages as well as disadvantages to using henchmen.
Advantages:
1: Henchmen will not drop out of party.
2: Will not sit and argue with other people while trying to do a mission.
3: Good for fodder when you just want to run to the next town.
4: Have all the time in the world to plan strategy and move around. So take your time.
5: Henchmen will only run from a enemy if they are low on health and will keep fighting once healed.
6: Will attack your target. “In a normal party people may target closes to them, random target or any target they see fit”
7: The monks will not refuse to heal you to gain a item for themselves or refuse to heal you cause you called them a nub.
Disadvantages:
1: No social environment when you are playing.
2: Lower drop rate for you. “Henchmen get drops as well that you do not see, as well as split gold”
3: Certain areas may be more difficult if you use henchmen.
Warriors are good with using henchmen since they can aggro a lot of the monsters and keep them away from the casters. If your not a warrior you may want to use some of the following commands to send in the warriors first so you can stay back and protect the casters.
Using Left Shift + Left Ctrl + Space bar when you are targeting a monster will make the Henchmen attack that target and make you not move keeping you back to protect the casters.
There are other tactics such as only fight if you have to. If you are doing a quest and there are 2 ways. One with monsters and one way that has a fewer take the fewer path. Remember if there is a monk in a group take out the monk first. If there is no monk may or may not be easier to take out the weakest monsters first before attacking the Warriors.
OVERVIEW:
1: Use Left Shift + Left ctrl + Space Bar
2: Take out monks first
3: Want to do a mission quick? Fight only if you have to.
4: Good for fodder if you are just running to the next town.
5: Will Follow you and attack your target.
6: Have the proper Henchmen build.
7: Will not argue with you or call you a idiot if you go a wrong way.
8: More time to plan.
Just a quick guide to help you fight with just henchmen. There may or may not be time when you will have to go into a party with other players.
