Welcome to my First Official Guide!
Profession: Me/Xx (preferably necro or monk as a secondary profession)
Build: E-Surge
Type of Build: Energy Denial/Shutdown
1) This is my own custom made E-Surge Mesmer build that I am currently using for a balanced team for GvG and I have had allot of sucess with it.
2) Please note that this build is primarily created for GvG purposes and will therefore not be as effective if you were to use it in other PvP areas.
3) With this build you will be able to burn off your opponent's energy, while creating sufficient amounts of damage.
4) Before I go into greater detail, I just want to note down that the second profession for this build is not essential to your survival as this build is purely focused on Domination magic.
These are the Attributes:
The Skill Bar:
Remember
You need to be careful with how you use these skills as there is not many skills that supply you back with energy apart from the exception of signet of weariness for energy management.
-Diversion - Hex Spell
For 6 seconds, the next time target foe uses a skill, that skill takes an additional 10-47 seconds to recharge.
-Mind Wrack - Hex Spell
For 20 seconds, the next time target foe's Energy drops to 0, that foe takes 15-75 damage.
-E-Surge {Elite} - Spell
Target foe loses 3-7 Energy. For each point of Energy lost, that foe and all foes in the area take 10 damage.
-Energy Burn - Spell
Target foe loses 3-7 Energy, and takes 10 damage for each point of Energy lost.
-Signet of Weariness - Signet
Target foe and all nearby foes lose 3-7 energy.
-Backfire - Hex Spell
For 10 seconds, whenever target foe casts a spell that foe takes 35-119 damage.
-Blackout - Hex Spell
For 2-6 seconds, all of touched target foe's skills are disabled, and all of your skills are disabled for 5 seconds.
Energy Drain and damage dealing skills=Ming Wrack, E-Surge [E], Energy Burn and Signet of Weariness in order.
Shutdown Skills=Diversion, Backfire and Blackout
Backfire is Important! (Well, for me anyway)
Analysis of Backfire
Backfire is actually a rather undesirable skill used in GvG but the majority of people tend to forget the significance of it. Did you know that it is one of the most vulnerable and effective hex spell in the game!? A useful tip is to use backfire when the called opponent is ½ way from dying, as this will basically shut down the ability for the targeted spell caster to not cast spells for 10 seconds.
When to cast Backfire?
Don’t cast a powerful hex like Backfire at the beginning of the GvG match as this can easily be countered with expired hex or revealed hex etc. Wait until you find a monk or spell caster with low health than that’s when you cast it. There’s a time and place for everything ;)
Weapons
I personally use a Staff for GvG but it’s not very important. It’s the mods that count!
Staff :-
Armour + Runes
In general, this build consumes allot of energy so it is therefore logical that you equip full Enchanter’s Armour as this will grant you the most energy out of any of the Mesmer sets of armours.
It is essential that you attach a superior rune of Domination magic to your Enchanter’s armour (If you haven’t managed to unlock the Superior version yet, than major should do). Superior/major/minor vigor is also needed if you have unlocked it. Lastly, a minor rune of fast casting will work great.
Strategies and Tips :-
-Find a specific player to put pressure on (usually the enemy Monk or another spell caster).
-Very important to target monks initially.
-A great combination to use is these skills in following order = Mind Wrack-->E-Surge-->Energy Burn-->Preferably Signet of Weariness (depending on the situation). This is great as you are both causing a high output of damage and energy draining at the same time. This combo is great for dying enemies as they will find it very hard to cast self-heals due to the lack of energy. If you manage to keep to this tactic and keep on repeating it, you should be able to eventually render the enemy useless.
-Try to mentally keep track of your opponent’s energy and use mind wrack followed by Energy Surge, Energy Burn in ascending order.
-Don't steal energy if your target is trying to hide their manna supply (through weapon swaps).
Substitutions and Possible Alternatives:
Substitution=Backfire-->Mantra of Signets (Description)
Before casting Signet of Weariness, use Mantra of Signets. This will let you cast Signet of Weariness again, stealing twice as much energy.
Conclusion
This guide in particular took me a while to do as I like everything done perfect ;)
So…..
I hoped you enjoyed reading my first guide!
And I hope that you have learnt from this information and that you will hopefully incorporate these tips and strategies into your playing so that you will have more successful GvG's.
Expect more guides from me in the future!
Thanks!
Constructive Criticism are all welcome :)
