Newbie’s Desert Farming Guide
Credit to Ulv first for his 55hp necro/monk guide that I use for this guide.
ulv's guide
this guide should work with any 55 build, just modify it to suit your needs and skills, i just use a necro for personal preference
I don’t claim in any shape or form to have discovered any of this first. Most people already know these spots which is obvious when you see the bots there farming them already, so don’t blame me for ruining your own “private” place, chances are 100 people were there before you. This guide is just meant for newcomers who want to make a quick bit of money, you cannot make 100’s of platinum from these spots, just enough to help you now and again. 80% of this guide is just condensed from forum posts anyway so can be found by anyone who spends 10 mins looking; I’m just putting a personal twist on things and just wanted to make an easily accessible version. The screenie’s are by me tho ;)
There are 3 main places in the desert to farm, most people know them already so the drops aren’t great, but they’re good enough to make money.
This is the skill bar setup I use from Ulv’s 55 necro/monk build, so refer to it when I mention casting numbers, 1=healing breeze, 3=protective spirit etc.
1. Elona’s Reach: easy Minotaur farming, Is full of bots, quick and easy.
2. The Scar: Griffon farm spot, can be slightly trickier due to a few rockshots interrupting spell casting, but short and sweet.
3. Skyward Reach: Hydra’s and a few griffons. The longest and trickiest due to hydras knocking you down a lot.
If you farm all 3 in succession then in theory you will not trigger the farming code that decreases your drops.
Basically follow the route marked on each following map and you should have no problems. Avoid the areas marked in green, these are not suitable for farming.
The main point to follow in each is to cast 6, 7 and 8 at the beginning of each run, and keep 1 and 3 up at all times when fighting, just cast 4 on a couple of enemies. 2 can be used when up against a lot of enemies, and 5 can be used for fun just to shorten the time by a few seconds.
Elona’s reach
This is the easiest of the 3. Start the mission and cast skills 6, 7, 8 on yourself. Go and talk to the ghost, drop the crystal and target yourself, this is important because otherwise when you cast protective spirit you may end up trying to cast it on the ghost, and die. Go and collect up a few Minotaurs and kill them all by casting spiteful spirit on a couple of them. Remember to keep protective spirit and healing breeze up as much as possible when fighting, if there’s a lot of mino’s then cast guardian to block some attacks. You can kill all the burrowers if you like or not, just don’t bother going further than the ghostly hero, just zone back to the merchant.
The Scar
Enter this area from destiny’s gorge and head left avoiding the losaru and cast your enchantments. Go after each group of griffons but be wary of rockshot devourer’s, their interrupts can be annoying and lengthen the trip a lot. if you go much further than the red path after the hydra you will come up against wurms and you’ll die.
Skyward Reach
This is the longest and sometimes most profitable, but also the trickiest because the hydra’s cast meteor to interrupt you. You can do one large circuit of this area and completely fill your inventory up and have to leave stuff behind. I’ve had 3 gold’s, a few dyes, lots of blue/purple items and about 3k in cash drop on an average run.
The trick with the hydra’s is to cast 3 just before you aggro a group, then when you get hit by the first meteor, cast 1, then after the last meteor hit cast 3 and 1 again, then 4 on a couple of them. However many hydra’s there are, is how many times you’ll be hit by meteor in a row, so for 4 hydra’s, count your meteor hits 4 times and start casting SS on them. Don’t get too cocky, because they can usually have enough time to cast meteor twice before dying, so if you’re casting guardian and get interrupted by their second volley of meteor, you will probably die.
The dead end path bottom left of the picture is griffon alley, an easy little run. If you want to make this area a quick cash spot, then just head to the end of that path after coming out of augary without bothering to farm the rest of the area.
The top right green spot is full of storm chasers which will strip your enchantments and kill you with hexes, the bottom green area is full of enchanted bow’s, hammer’s and swords, you can kill them if you want to take age’s doing it, but it does take ages. The top right green area is full of losaru, again its do-able if you take on one small group at a time and target the healers first, but again it takes a while.
i hope someone will find this helpful!
