Hi everyone! This is my first guide and i have not seen it on any page anywhere. I am writing this guide to inform other new monks how to effectivly heal without running out of energy. I have recently started a new character and when I am doing missions the monks always seem to be pissed off and out of energy. This guide requires no elites and does not require all 200 attribute points.

Weapons - Any Staff with +15 energy and +20% enchantment bonus.

Attributes - For those of you with all 200, here they are. If you dont have all those attributes, make sure you keep divine and healing as high as possible.

16 in Divine Favor (12+1+3)
13 in Healing Prayers (12+3)
4 in Protection Prayers (4+1)

Skills

Orison of Healing - Cost 5 - Spell. Heal target ally for 63 points.

Dwayna's Kiss - Cost 5 - Spell. Heal target other ally for 54 points and an additional 18 points for each Enchantment or Hex on that ally.

Mend Ailment - Cost 5 - Spell. Remove one Condition (Poison, Disease, Blindness, Dazed, Bleeding, Crippled, or Deep Wound) from target ally. That ally is healed for 22 points for each remaining Condition.

Healing Touch - Cost 5 - Spell. Heal target touched ally for 54 points. Health gain from Divine Favor is doubled for this Spell.

Divine Spirit - Cost 5 - Enchantment Spell. For 15 seconds, Monk Spells cost you 5 less Energy to cast. (Minimum cost: 1 Energy.)

Divine Healing - Cost 5 - Spell. Heal yourself and party members in the area for 277 points.

Divine Boon - Cost 5 - Enchantment Spell. While you maintain this Enchantment, whenever you cast a Monk Spell that targets an ally, that ally is healed for 73 points, and you lose 2 Energy.

Rebirth or Restore Life

Tactics

You are the healer! You need to stay back behind everyone. Follow the group and dont move out in front EVER!!!!!

You need to have Divine Boon on all the time. If your team over aggros and things start getting crazy, cast Divine Spirit. With the enchantment bonus from your weapon, Divine Spirit will last for 18 seconds. Now your healing spells will only cost you 3 energy.

So now you ask, where is healing breeze and Vigorous Spirit? As for healing breeze and Vigorous Spirit, they are enchantments, and that gives the enemy more to hurt your teammates, making you heal more and waste more energy. Example, you cast Healing Breeze which costs you 10 Energy, and an enemy uses Shatter Enchantment and hurts your teammate for an extra 70dmg, now you have to heal that teammate 2 times more to get them back to full HP. 3 spells cast vs 1 spell cast.

But why divine boon? You lose 2 energy when you heal! With Divine Boon you get an extra 73 points of Healing per spell, giving you a really BIG heal for only 7 energy. Here are some examples.

With Divine Boon all skills cost 7 energy!
Orison of Healing - 63+71+48 = 182
Dwayna's Kiss - 54+71+48 = 173
Healing Touch - (for yourself and close by casters) 54+48+48+71 = 221
Mend Ailment - (this removes a condition, I usually use it when warriors are blind) 71+48 = 119

Here are some spells that people use that is a total waste compared to what I have.

Heal Other +161 HP for 10 energy.
Healing Breeze +160 HP over 10 seconds for 10 energy and can be bait for shatter enchantment spells.
Heal Party +71 HP to all party members for 15 energy. (not all party members need healing and it would be great if the energy was used somewhere else.

Remember to stay out of the fight and watch your party window for HP levels, I usually wait until some is 1/3 down on HP to heal them as most lvl 20 characters have around 500 HP and 1/3 of that is 165, which can be healed by one spell.

Last but not least is Divine Healing. There will be a time when some enemy will come after you and for any chance you need HP really quick, use Divine Healing. With Divine Boon on, you will be healed for 277+48+71, that is a total of almost 400 HP!!!!!

Hopefully this guide helps new monks with their energy problems.

Looks like a nice build, not my flavor persay, but effective for sure. Does a great job of getting the most healing per energy point spent, but even with a build like this your energy could run low (never ceases to amaze me how much aggro one retard can pull onto a party).

  eponymous47 on 04/18/06 15:33

not a bad no-elite build, but i'd add in some energy management... even with tattoos monks run out of energy really fast especially with divine boon. or just tell the necro to bring BR, whatever.

oh and divine healing has a ridiculous recharge. i never use it, but thats just me. also, does divine healing even activate divine boon? since you arent targeting an ally, its just an area heal. i'll try later, but i got work to do now.

  CaptainBobby on 04/18/06 15:42

Yes, Divine Healing is only for use when you are like at 20 HP and you need to heal yourself almost to 100%, usually healing touch does the trick if you are at %50 HP. Also if you don't spam the heals every second you should be fine on energy, and by casting divine spirit, those 150-200 points heals only cost you 3 energy

  chuiu on 04/18/06 15:45

Horrible build! No energy management in conjunction with divine boon = no energy. Divine spirit costs 10 NOT 5 and does not constitute as 'energy management' because it only lasts 15 seconds, can easily be stripped, and has a long recharge of 60 seconds.

The easiest way of making this build worth anything is to take out divine healing and put in glyph of renewal to maintain a constant divine spirit.

  Riotpoll on 04/18/06 15:54

This is a pve build! I've never had energy problems while playing pve monks.

  CaptainBobby on 04/18/06 15:57

How do you say it is horrible? First off this is a NON ELITE BUILD.

Second of all, Glyph of Renewal Elite Skill : Elite Glyph. Your next Spell recharges twice as fast as normal.

Thrid of all, I guess you missed the part where I wrote stay out of enemy range. You have Divine Boon on you an it can easily be stripped.

Fourth of all, I am sorry for the type, Divine Healing and Divine Spirit cost both 10 energy.

Fifth of all, what energy management would you suggest?? You shouldn't have to waste a skill slot on energy management unless you are healing someone for 160HP when hey have only lost 5HP, get my point?

  ttn_2005 on 04/18/06 16:09

For those of you who have never run out of energy while playing monk in PvE, let me congratulate you on your skill...and luck :D

There are players in GW that even Dwayna herself wouldn't be able to keep alive!

  cswella on 04/18/06 16:37

You may not be able to do this with a PuG group, but when I monk, I bring Essence Bond and put it on the warrior. We all know how to let the warrior get aggro and so I never have a problem with energy. I drop Divine Healing and Divine Spirit and bring Healing Seed and Holy Veil.

A good energy management skill in the Monk line is Peace and Harmony. It requires no target and lasts for a long time. And it forces the monk to not attack, thus reducing the chance for aggro.

But if you want energy management without the use of elites, you'll have to go with Blood Ritual or (ugh) energy tap.

But honestly, if you're having energy issues before you can get elites, something's wrong.

  ttn_2005 on 04/18/06 17:07

Yes, Essence Bond is the only maintain enchantment I use with my Healing monk, and I only use it when someone is under constant or heavy fire. It's the energy management I use for later missions, since it doesn't require any attribute point. BTW, Blood Ritual can't be used on yourself.

  Hammerite Rozsda on 04/18/06 17:17

Instead of Divine Boon use Peace and Harmony.
Boon not only takes a pip of energy but adds +2 energy cost. In a long fight this will shut you down in no time.
Better to heal a bit less but heal almost constantly because 5 pip energy regen is simply awesome.

Peace and Harmony is one of the best skills for a healer, can spam lots and lots of healing with hardly ever depleting energy.

gfg  uproarwest on 04/18/06 17:47

yeah this build does sorta blow

honestly, why would you ever want to make a non-elite build if you're far enough into the game to have 200 att. points. at least swap dwayna's for Word of Healing. think a little bit man.

the only point i can see to a non-elite build is to combat signet of humility, which is used oh so often by those pve mesmers.

  CrazyTreeBoy on 04/18/06 19:14

I think you're all being very harsh. This is a fairly good build (and I DO monk). Remember, this is PvE, not PvP. You'd rarely get a recharge on Divine Spirit.

And I believe some of you understimate Divine Spirit as an energy management skill. Over 15 seconds, you'll likely cast 6-7 times, saving you a total of about 30 energy (just rough numbers for now). Therefore, after casting cost, you're gaining 20 energy. And that is not bad at all for energy management. now, I know some of you say it's recharge is much too long. I say that in PvE, the fight'll be over 'fore you need to do it more than once.

Also, please remember. Divine Spirit and Divine Boon mean you can constantly cast spells at 1 energy. Divine Boon subtracts 2 energy, but when you cast the spell with 1 energy, you're at 0 and boon subtracts 0.

  cswella on 04/18/06 21:05

Yeah, I know. I never said you could use it on yourself. I just said that it's a form of energy management.

  everdream on 04/18/06 21:15

just a reminder not to flame guides. they are there because they've worked for the person submitting and they want to share it with you... they are not telling you to do it their way.

play nice. and good first guide.

  chuiu on 04/18/06 21:58

Well I'm 'sharing' my comments about how the guide could be much better. Or is that not why comments are allowed?

  CaptainBobby on 04/18/06 22:03

Thank you for those of you with nice things to say. Things to remember are this is not a PvP guide, its for PvE. Also this is a non-elite guide that does not require all the attribute points as I stated. This is basically the Build that I used as a healing monk all the way from Yaks bend to the SothernShiverpeaks. If you plan on commenting on this guide, read the entire thing first and take it for what it is.

Also

Glyph of Renewal Elite Skill : Elite Glyph. Your next Spell recharges twice as fast as normal.

I COPIED AND PASTED IT FROM THE GAMEAMP SKILL SECTION!

Glyph error  everdream on 04/18/06 23:21

sorry about the information on Glyph of Renewal not being up to date, the problem has been fixed. thanks for spotting.

this guide was for NEW MONKS that are unexperienced with healing, and obviously not for highly experienced monks like yourself chuiu. /sarcasm

On the othernote, I also play a healing monk. I use to use a similar build as yours witch I found was pretty effective up to the ring of fire missions. One of the difference of my build was that I used Offering of Blood to keep my energy levels up. But then again it is an elite skill, but with this build I was able to complete THK AND the BONUS.

Overall a nice guide especially with the attribute distributions. but u should add in some hex and condition removals.

  Riotpoll on 04/19/06 01:54

I think the reason I never have energy problems in pve is because the henchies are so awesome!

If you would actually read my comment past that first sentence you would realize IT IS A CONSTRUCTIVE COMMENT. Besides that fact if only constructive comments are allowed then why does it not say 'Add Your Constructive Comments' instead of 'Add Your Comments'. Nowhere do I see rules against posting negative comments about guides. Furthermore why does the mass of people always get angry when a guide recieves comments such as mine? I'm one of the few people who actually point out the flaws and show how to improve on builds or guides instead of mindlessly clicking and typing "GOOD BUILD! UR AWESOME!!".

If you don't want any comments at all from me then remove the feature or me from the site because as long as I read a build I don't like I'm going to reply why.

you can point out its flaws and suggest ideas but you shoudlnt insult a guide

most constructive comments dont start with "horrible build". sure there are constructive things in your comment but also much not-constructive things.

thaat is so stupid im not even going to say anything about it (except that its stupid xD)

Whos talking about "rules"? you know, some people can be nice without being forced to be nice.

This is not true. If you would actually read other peoples comments, they also give tips and say things about how to make the build even better. dont start saying your "one of the few people" who tries to add to the build, thats completely not true. Read some guide comments and youll see that like 50% of all the comments people make is to add things to the build/make it better. The difference is you dont start helping to make the guide better, but you start flaming "horrible build!". Thats why people get "angry"(i wouldnt call it angry) at you.

QUOTE

people are submitting guides because they thing these guides could be usefull to some people. They are not forcing you to use the build once you read it. Its better to talk about what you do like then about all the things you dont like.
If you see a guide that wont be usefull to you just forget about it and hope that, one day, you will find the guide thats good enough for your uber 1337 5k1llz.

srry for flaming your comment, but i think that people who flame other people deserve to get flamed back :)

  Solicity on 04/19/06 16:07

flame war? i have a dragon ^^

cool build! can see how it can easily point new monks in the right direction. i know when i want to start something, i see if someone has a similar build, and try it out - then see if i can improve it, but the basic idea was good! why do you think there are so many 55 builds? because it failed?
