well this is my first guide and im still consider myself newb to GW but i'm gooing to take a swing at it.

the attributes:
6 expertise
12 marksmanship
11 wilderness survival

the weapons:
off course a bow but i recon a +30 mod.
i've got my green dragos flatbow for so long, but you can use something else.



the armor:
myself use full druids for the energy + the hunters mask for more expertise







the runes:
superior expertise -10 exp would be enuf-
a major marksmanship
and a minor wilderness survival

the skills:
heres some skill info + picture thank you neolasticman =]



power shot
penetrating attack
distracting shot
preperation -can use any-
practised stance
troll unguent
whirling defence
ressurection move -rebirth, restore life, rez signet-

tips:
-use your preperation in combo with practiced stance for longer use.
-penetrating attack has ARMORPENETRATION use it against warrior.
-power shot recently got a power boost +damage usefull for the first blow.
-use troll unguent in tight spots you have around 415 health watch it.
-dont worrie about disabling your practiced stance by using whirling defence it recharges rather quick.
-DISTRACTING shot disables those speasky minnion summoners and healing signets.
-iff your running low on energy try keeping rather your preperation up then your attack moves.
-iff your preperation are up and still low wait a phew sec 6 energy aint that long.

For better use of your Attributes, i would get an archers mask, and get a minor rune of marksmanship

that way you can boost another one up.

You can do either
Marksmanship 12 (10+2)
Expertise 13 (10+3)
Wilderness Survival (10+1)

or

Marksmanship 12 (10+2)
Expertise 11 (8+3)
Wilderness Survival 12 (11+1)

that way you can get 445 HP with your minor vigor and your +30 bow

I would also throw in at least one interrupting shot.

Not a bad build. I think you could manage your attributes more effectively tho, you are not getting full potential out of them.

-I would put your superior runes on a matching mask, makes it alot easier when your swapping builds.

-Use superior rune on the attribute you want to have highest, not lowest. This frees up a larger amount of points.

I would assume you are making an all around ranger build for most pve purposes...not really sure what be...i would certainly invest in atleast a major vigor...must have some gold to be sporting the dragos flat...and i agree with voltage u should have corresponding runes on corresponding masks to make it easier to switch from one build to the next...

i could say a lot but i'll keep it to just this

why practiced stance? you're dedicating an elite spot solely to a non-elite skill that doesn't need any help at all. read the wind is a completely self sufficient skill. consider punishing shot to replace power shot and practiced stance at the same time.

also, you have really high wilderness survival dedicated only to troll unguent. you could lower it some or remove it completely with no trouble.

those stats dont make sense. atleast one of those should be 16 another should be 13 with a minor then u should have about enough points to pump 4-7 into another stat.

Expertise has to be 9 or 12, other points dont matter, 9,12,15 are the breakpoints...

How about Choking Gas as the prep? With Practiced, it is nearly constant and if somebody puts a Fav Winds down, you can reliably interrupt almost every spell.

despite the comments of some people who are apparently looking for a build to own pvp with...i think its a good build for pve rangers to use.
Personally, i prefer to use precision shot instead of power shot when i go rangering, but that's just me

thx for all those comments guys but will you try it out first?
this is my first character i started this build is work off being a ranger for so long -145hrs over 8 months-
with the 10 expertise you have more attribute points left for other things.

1. is this a pvp or pve char??
2. if it's a pvp, then too low expertise and Power Shot... too expensive, and useless, use eg. Hunter's Shot for +dmg and +bleeding if shot in right time. Cheaper, better :P
3. if it's a pvp, then use Rez signet instead
4. in any case, you have only one skill that is from Wilderness Survival "group". That is Troll Unguent. If you put so much att pts. only to get a good + hp regen... Try using more skills from WS, such Apply Poison or so.
5. with so low expertise, whirling defence is rather useless... too long recharge imho. You'd better use Lightning Reflexes for +33% attack rate and +75% evade. (recharge is 45, not 60 like with Whirling)

You are minus 125 HP's from 2 runes.

A more efficient setup:
-Lev 10 Markmanship (61 attribute pts) +1 mask +3 sup rune Total= 14
-Lev 11 Wilder Survival (77 attribute points) +1 minor rune Total= 12
-Lev 10 Expertise (61 attribute pts) +1 minor rune Total=11
You are now only minus 75 HP's from the 1 rune.

So, keeping your Marksmanship and Wilderness at the same levels you originally had them at, you now have an extra point in Expertise and you have 50 more HP's.

i wouldnt put read the wind.... its just terrible because it takes longer and it only makes u shoot faster... i would put poison arrows because in the time you shoot twice with RTW the poison will have taken moer damage and its faster

this guide is old and out of date.
my ranger has progressed more since then and has an entire new build.
