Hi, immunis here!
Here’s my first build submitted to the Gameamp website, I hope you enjoy. This guide was tested extensively in random arenas and I absolutely love using it. I first tested it with arcane conundrum, but found that adding necromancer curse spells was a better way to go via damage against ALL classes. At the end there is a nice little usage summary for the lazy ones, and for those who don’t mind reading I do go a bit in-depth on usage. So here it goes:
First off, the skill setup:
As you can see I’ve ordered these in a specific order and the variables in the skills are set for the attributes I'll show you next. I have the skills ordered this way for ease of use with the number keys.
What you can switch out:
Weaken Armor
For:
Barbs (Curses) - adds damage
Mark of Pain (Curses) - Adjacent enemies takes so much damage with every physical hit
Whirling Defense (Optional Slot)
For:
Throw Dirt (Wilderness Survival) – to blind enemy and adjacent enemies
Dust Trap (Wilderness Survival) – Blind enemies in the area of effect
Antidote Signet (No Attribute)- Cure poison, disease, blind
Attributes, what adds the punch to the skills:
Curses: 7
Not Applicable
Expertise: 10 +1 = 11
Minor Rune of Expertise (+1)
Wilderness Survival: 10 +1 = 11
Minor Rune of Wilderness Survival (+1)
Marksmanship: 9 +1 +3 = 13
Mask (+1) + Superior Rune of Marksmanship (+3)
For me this was the best set up of attributes, you can, of course vary if you’d like with differing results.
Armor, What’s between you and the damage:
This is a list of what I recommend you can use. Use either this or Drakescale Armor for the added protection against elemental damage.
Make sure to include the Superior Rune of Vigor
Your Weapons:
I recommend the sundering mod and vampiric mod for their added damage and the fortifying mod is a must seeing as you have a superior rune on your armor. Im pretty sure the sundering mod will be your best bet for added damage in my opinion. There are differing opinions on which adds ore damage. In my experience it is the sundering mod. I use the recurve and short bow for their attack speed.
How to use this build:
Choosing your target:
Attacking Melee:
Best target of course is casters, if you have weaken armor (which I recommend) warriors won’t be much of a problem with the added damage along with the sundering bow and casters will be dealt quite a bit of damage per shot. Of course use distracting shot, punishing shot, and savage shot to disrupt anything you can on warriors, especially res signets and heal signets. If you come across any odd little melee rangers or Illusionary Weaponry (IW) Mesmers focus on them immediately, they deal damage quick and highly effectively.
Attacking Casters:
Weaken armor is really good because with it you can hit 100+ with the sundering mod on. The key is to hit a long term spell (fireball, backfire, healing breeze, guardian) with concussion shot due to its using so much energy even with expertise on 11, and the fact that it causes 18 seconds of dazed. If you don’t have the energy afterwards that’s what we have our other 3 disrupt skills for.
Attacking Other Rangers:
This is the trickiest class to play against I believe, not only can they blind, they may do poison, crippling, or even distract your troll ungent. This is what we have whirling defense for: to evade their attacks and give ourselves a chance to cast troll ungent on ourselves. You may want to replace whirling with dodge to get away and cast troll ungent. Or if your style is instant retribution replace whirling with antidote signet to get back in the game quickly and deal some damage back. Your best chance at offense is to try and distract them as much as possible depending on their build. A lot of rangers focus on poisons, traps, and spiking. They do all this via preparations or skills that take at least 2 seconds to bring up. That’s your chance to get back. Your best possibility is to get their timing down quickly and spam your disrupts when the timing is right. Also remember the necro spell you’re carrying will help with damage along with your sundering/vampiric mod.
Your Defense:
When being attacked you have troll ungent and whirling defense on your defensive lines and hopefully a monk to help with healing when you need it. You can replace whirling defense with dodge due to it also having a good 75% chance to evade attacks and you can hightail it out of tight situations. Be careful of IW, you cannot evade it (if I am wrong please correct me, I tried whirling defense to no avail.)
Summary of usage for all those lazy people:
1. Spam your necro spell,
2. Use concussion shot first off if possible, spam disrupt skills, focus on casters or those odd little melee rangers and IW mesmers first, warriors lastly.
3. Keep an eye open for rezzers and use distracting shot on them. DO NOT use concussion shot, it is only for spells disruption.
4. Against rangers get their timing down and hope to get the advantage with your disrupts and heavy damage via necro spell and sundering/vampiric mod.
5. Remember whirling defense cannot evade IW.
I hope you enjoyed this guide and that you found it useful! Please leave comments and positive feedback! I want to know YOUR opinion.
