| Logitech G15 LCD GameAmp Monitor (GGAM) |
|
|
|
(G)15 (G)ame(A)mp (M)onitor
Current version: 1.02.
It is now finished, my very first Logitech G15 LCD applet! :-)
Allow me explain to those who haven't heard of the G15 yet...
The Logitech® G15 Gaming Keyboard is a keyboard with a small LCD display mounted on it and thanks to Logitech providing the community with all the required information to instruct this display programmers like me have the freedom to do virtually anything with it. :-)
This particular LCD applet will allow the user to constantly keep track of and even read all the latest forum topics on any GameAmp site of the user's choosing.
"Soooo, what's so cool about that? My Firefox can do that too and it probably can stuff more content on one page than your LCD applet."
Hmm, bah, you got me there. :-P
Well, actually, contrarily to all the browsers the people around here use; with this LCD applet you can read all those forum topics without having to leave or even minimize your full-screen game!
Yeah, that's more like it, huh? ;-)
And I can already hear some people out there thinking they're not up for fiddling around with a bunch of crazy files they have to get to work together in some frustrating and / or complex way.
I can ensure you that is not the case here, I have packaged everything in a neat little installer.
Just click 'Next', 'Next', 'Next', 'Finish' and you're ready to roll! :-)
The installer can be downloaded here:
GGAM Setup (\"ggamsetup_latest.exe\" - 3,95MB)
And following below is the readme file including some details.

-- What is GGAM
---------------------------------
(G)15 (G)ame(A)mp (M)onitor is a Logitech G15 LCD applet that brings you the latest GameAmp forum content in-game.
This applet allows owners of a Logitech G15 LCD Gaming Keyboard to constantly keep track of the latest forum posts.
It can be configured to monitor the most recent 5 topics of any GameAmp site of the user's choosing.
Features include the following:
> Monitoring the most recent 5 forum topics of any GameAmp site.
> Configuring an auto-refresh interval in minutes anywhere in the range of 3 to 15 minutes.
> A handy "Flash on refresh" feature that makes the entire keyboard backlight flash on every refresh so that you can't miss it.
> Reading the actual topic content of any of the most recent 5 topics.
> Multiple page support for the topic reading feature.

-- Disclaimer

The author of this product cannot be held responsible for any damage, inconsistencies, discomfort or anything else of similar nature, be it to hardware, software or the actual end-user, directly or indirectly caused by or in any way resulting from the use, abuse, or even keeping of this software.
By installing the software product you agree to all the before-mentioned and will refrain from stating otherwise at any time, regardless of any circumstances.
---------------------------------
-- Requirements
---------------------------------
Needless to say, to get the most out of this applet you will need a Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard.
Although Logitech does provide an emulator allowing people to develop new applets or preview existing ones without having the keyboard the fact that this basically moves the display to your standard monitor eliminates the entire use of this applet simply because you won't be able to do anything with it while you're in a full-screen application such as most games.
If, however, for any reason you'd like to try it out using the emulator anyway, here's how:
1) Download and install the Logitech G-series Keyboard Software v1.02.218 or later.
2) Unpack the 'LCDSDK_1.02.218.zip' file in the directory 'C:Program FilesLogitechG-series SoftwareSDK'.
3) Run the 'VLCDCtrl.exe' file in the resulting 'Tools' subdirectory.
4) Click 'Plug in Virtual LCD'.
5) Install and run the applet and that's it.
---------------------------------
-- How to install
---------------------------------
The installation process is limited to just running the setup and following the on-screen instructions.
That's really all there is to it. :-)
---------------------------------
-- Known issues
---------------------------------
> The indicator for the number of pages in a topic will display an incorrect number for topics with more than 99 pages.
---------------------------------
-- Bug reports / feature suggestions
---------------------------------
Feature suggestions are always more than welcome and can be posted in the forum topic mentioned below.
As for bug reports: first and foremost, please do not issue any bug reports if you have manually edited / tampered with any of the GGAM program files unless you had followed specific instructions by me - Julia Heartilly - posted in the forum topic mentioned below or described in a PM.
If you do encounter a bug while making normal use of the applet then please report this with an as detailed as possible description of what appeared to be the problem to you.
In case of bugs in the processing or displaying of content from GameAmp web pages a link to the topic in which the problem occured or in case of an index page problem the source code of that page at the time can prove to be a great help.

Woow this looks great... too bad I don't actually have the Keyboard so I can't use it... oh well.
Perhaps you should spend more time leveling up that level 2 monk Linda, it'll be her birthday soon, and less time making these...

Well, it controls the LCD through an SDK which is part of the G-series software, not G15 software, soooooo.... I don't know. xD
Let's put it this way, the G15 is the only keyboard I know it works on.

Whilst googling i did come across another LCD Keyboard, not sure it supports applets though.

Looks like it has less functionality conserning the LCD compared to G15.

Yeah the MX5000 is definitely limited to just a few functions Logitech built in (read: essentially useless).
The G11 I'm not sure about but I'm guessing the G15 is unique in this indeed.
Edit: Doh, the G11 is a G15 without LCD...
So yeah, just this keyboard. :-P

You already planned on getting that keyboard I suppose, not just for this applet? :-P

It seems I found a bug myself.
The refresh interval is off a bit, while playing Splinter Cell Chaos Theory (100% CPU load) every interval was approximately 40 seconds longer than it should be and after I shut that down and timed it with a CPU load pretty much at 0-2% all the time it still appeared to be about 20-25 seconds late every time.
So, I'll work on fixing that now, expect a version 1.01 very soon.
