Orestes' Christmas Raffel
I've been pondering this for a while now and I believe I've finally got it all squared away in my mind. I'll be hosting a Christmas raffel to celebrate the holiday season. The rules are relatively simple and the prizes are very good. So without further yip yap here we go.
I will be posting this as a notice that the raffel will take place only. I'll kindly ask that this post and the entry post be pinned for the duration of this raffel.
Rules:
The entry fee will be 1,000 in Guild Wars gold and there will be three winners. Once you've posted that you'd like to pay the entry fee and that you'd like to participate, you will be assigned a raffel ticket numbered according to your post position. If you are the first to post then your raffel ticket number will be #1, and so on.
When
The raffel will begin as soon as you take that plunge and decide to purchase a ticket.
The raffel will be accepting entrants until Thursday, December 22nd at 11:59PM (Eastern Time.)
Friday, December 23rd will be the last day you have to pay your entry fee or you will forfeit your ticket number and it will not be included in the drawing. You may pay your entry fee at any time between now and 11:59PM on Friday night. You will be provided with the necessary contact information to make this payment. I'll put your skepticism about this method to rest in just a few moments.
Once you've all payed your entry fees the raffel will be closed and ready for the drawing. The drawing will take place Saturday, December 24th at 11:00AM. The winners will be announced the same day at 3:00PM. Finally, the prizes will be delivered to our winners on Christmas Day at 7:00PM. The reason for this date and time is to give the winners that real sense of Christmas Glee (:D)
Physics
There will be a total of 6 raffel tickets drawn. The first three drawn will be the primary winners of the raffel. The following 3 tickets drawn (in order so that 1st, 2nd, and 3rd receive their prizes accordingly) will be the runners up. These entrants will receive the prize in the event that the primary prize winner does not claim their prize(s). These 3 tickets will remain hidden unless this happens. The reason for this being that I don't want any hurt feelings that they were drawn so close to being the primary winner.
What I will Require
Now it's time to lay those skeptics to rest as I promised earlier. I will need an Admin/Moderator to voluteer their services for this raffel.
Their duties will include:
-Assistance in gathering the entry fees
-Holding the entry fees until the end of the raffel
-Assisting myself in tallying entrants according to their raffel ticket number and calculating the entry fee total
-Physically drawing the ticket numbers.
What's in it for me
I will receive 80% of the entry fee total. The other 20% will be given to the volunteering admin who's assisting me. The reason the cut is so much in my favor is that I'm providing all of the prizes and this was my idea after all :D.
In closing
All entry fees will be collected by either myself or the volunteering Admin/Moderator assigned to the raffel. The reason I'm taking part the collecting at all is to relieve some of the pressure from the volunteer. However, if he/she decides they can do it on their own, then so be it.
Entry fees will be collected in Ascalon Internation District 1. The reason for this location is simply to make this level friendly. Everyone in the raffel who's out of pre-seering can meet in this location.
The method to which the tickets will be drawn is by paper and hat. All numbers will be written on a sheet of paper, cut out, and then drawn from a hat/bag/pillow case, etc. This will be done (as said above) by the volunteering Admin/Moderator.
All winners will have 3 days after the announcement to collect their prizes. If these winners to not claim their prizes in this time, the appropriate, hidden runner up will receive the prize in his/her sted.
PRIZES
Ah yes, What you've all been waiting for. I'll get right down to it;
1st Prize
1. Winner's Choice of Droknar's Forge Armor for their character (I will supply the 7500 required for the armor plus any/all materials required) or 10,000 Gold.
2. This rare Axe and Shield Set
2nd Prize
1. Your choice between these two weapons.
Or
2. 5,000 Gold.
3rd Prize
1. 5,000 Gold
It's relatively late here so it's very possible I've made a few miscalculations about the rules, etc. I'd appreciate any feedback I could get. I'll need first for an Admin/Moderator to volunteer their assistance (all duties mentioned above) for this raffel. I'm trying to bring something exciting to everyone in the forums for Christmas. I hope this will be successful and make everyone happy for the holidays. Good luck to you all.... RAFFEL OPEN :D.

My IGN is Orestes H. You're right about the timeing. I probably won't find an admin to get in this with me until tomorrow. This won't be the place to post if you want in or not. I'll create a new post once I have a volunteered admin to help me. Don't worry, though, your posts will be moved from here to there so you won't lose your raffel number.

May i suggest something?
There may still be skeptics out there about drawing a number from a hat, but no one can argue with the /roll command. You just type /roll -number of tickets sold- and everyone can see the winner. Secondary winners can be chosen differently. Once again, just a suggestion, good luck with everything.

Ok thanks a lot man, that would be wonderful. I guess I can add you to my friend's and we can stay in touch about what figures we're getting. We can get the rest squared away a bit later.

I wasn't aware of the /roll command but that sounds like a really good idea. I'm not so sure about the runner up method. I'm thinking that if the primary ticket holders don't claim their prizes, we'll just roll again and weed out the previously drawn number.
Thanks for all your advice, I really hope this is successful :D.

A little thing about the /roll emote.
It doesn't work inside towns. Not sure about Guild halls, but I think that's might be the only place where you could do a /roll openly and viewed by all as witnesses of fair play. It'd cost you 100gp per contestant though.
The /roll emote used to work in towns as well, but ArenaNet felt it nessecary to crack down on in-town gambling houses. Too many cases of fraud or fraud accusations.

This looks fun. I would join, but I won't be around for the drawing or the pickup. Not to mention that my computer with guildwars died and the one I am currently using is not good enough to run it, so I can't play either. *runs to the corner and crys* Oh well, good luck to all who enter.

That's perfectly ok man. I'm sorry to hear about your computer problems. Just know that you could still enter, and as long as you keep me updated and knowing that you still intend to pick up your prize, I'll hold the items for you. I just don't want a user to win and wait 2 weeks before the items are delivered. I'm doing this so that the frequent users are rewarded more than the every-so-often players. So head over and sign up if you want, I'll work with you as far as the computer issues go.

Not a bad idea, but there is a trust issue: 1. Admin could run off with the cash 2. He/she could fix it so a mates win the prizes.
I really like it though! Hmmm might be an idea to make a little cash too....I might steal this idea for an Acoma Lottery for my website. :) Hey if you into making ideas like this you should come help in Acoma tournaments we are always looking for peeps with good ideas and some energy!
