Hi there, back again after some months, haven't been on Gameamp since im drowning myself in forums from various guilds and other websites, and some of you would agree, getting on GameAmp forums after a while means you only get swallowed even deeper into the posts.
Anyways, i see that there are some guides about how to make guilds work, and how a guild leader should be, but i haven't yet seen one that gets to the more detailed part of running a guild and having extra stuff, in this case im talking about IN-GUILD ranks yes.
In-Guild ranks, yes, were to start? ah, some of you may have heard of it, others not.
In-guild ranks either mean frustration to some and others like them, i totally comes down to how fast you want that officer position.
Now im the guild leader of an one year old guild, and since i thought of a ranking system things been going better, more organized since now people actually have to work harder then just constantly spam/beg to be promoted.
Ok, so, you want some nice ranks eh? First of all let me tell you this, rank systems are (depending on the size of the guild) sometimes a bit frustrating, especially for those that usually take care of stuff in their guild by themselves. My advise is that you atleast need a forum or website were you can display all names of those in your guild, with the associated ranks, yes, im aware its quite some typing for some. But in the end it will pay off.
Now, you need to think of some names, for instance my guild: "Knights of Light and Darkness" speaks for itself, so i went to titles with Knight in them, such as the "Knight of Darkness" title, which is for those that do much PvP and come up with builds and the like.
It's up to you however to make names, but you get the idea, for instance a guild with the name: "Biggest Noobs In The World" can use titles with: N00B, Beginner, Amateur, Fr00B etcetera, you name it.
Now before you let your thoughts go wild on hundreds of titles and ranks, stop. You have to make sure theres a balance between both, since if you make a ranking system, focusing on members as first is a priority, since member rank in guildwars is the lowest in regard. Giving the chance for them to gain more *status* within the guild gives them something to look out for, its also handy for those that grow impatient and want to see some payoff for their hard work and dedication for your guild.
Also, don't forget about officer ranks, just because one is officer doesn't need to mean he/she is superiour above all, for instance we also have officer ranks, so that shows the importance and rewards those that really put work and serious dedication in your guild.
Also, what i seen in another guild that once (i didn't mind) based its ranks ideas from ours, subtly *forced* their members to lose their first rank because it had a low, meaningless name, and thus to escape that horrible title they (those that cared about it) went to do a bit of work and help around the guild to get atleast one rank higher. I even heard of a guild that paid some of its officers with certain high ranks, though that is your choice to make.
I hope this is usefull to some end or another, just keep in mind that its your decision and opinion what you do, and how you lead your own guild, if your just a member and notice your guild doesn't have this, see if you can suggest it to an officer or your guild leader, if they welcome the idea surely you would be one that claims a high position in your suggested guild ranks ;)
Just adding my 2 cents after some time.
