Obviously getting the perfect build is not something you can accomplish on the first try. One would be constantly refining, tweaking, changing their setup to better suit each grinding spot. All in all, there really is no perfect build. A perfect skill set is impossible for one real reason: everyone plays differently. For example, I know some Monks prefer to heal while using protection skills in combination with divine favor to not only heal but prevent damage, while I prefer the approach of spamming Word of Healing and using other backup skills when energy runs low. This all comes down to a matter of opinion and playing style. Both are more than capable of doing their job - neither is truely better than the other, when you break it down.
Now, I'm not saying that every build is great - because that is definitely not true. Say, for example, someone relies entirely on adrenal sword skills - now, that's great, but Warriors are typically tanks and are most often sought after as such. But they also need something to rely on when they have no adrenaline - mesmers, for example, can cast Soothing Images and prevent them from getting any, and they will be totally crippled. You may want to drop some of those skills in exchange for not only energy based skills but signets and other means of survival - like Defensive Stance. This build will now be MUCH more suitable and more reliable in a fight, as you have some backup skills.
Setting your skill bar for the area is also key. If you will be facing monsters who constantly use shatter enchantment - your enchantments will merely give the enemies an upper hand. The best way, for example, for a monk to overcome mesmer enemies is to bring lots of 'healing spams' like Word of Healing, Orison of Healing, Dwayna's Kiss, etc. You may also go the route of signets and blocking the mesmer skills. That is just one of MANY things you must plan for accordingly before setting out. Taking advantage of prior planning will take alot of stress and risk out of the mission. Always, if possible, do a little research to find the best skill set for the area.
Another thing you have to focus on is using skills correctly. You wouldn't want to cast an energy drain spell on a Warrior when a nearby Monk enemy is just healing away - cripple them and you will be the victors. Using a skill like Life Bond on one of the casters while the tank is just raking in the damage - it's just a waste of energy. Correctly using your skill bar will be more than essential for victory. Now, go ahead and cast your Mark of Protection on the tank and Blood is Power on the casters, victory looms right over that next
